What is boxwood carving? How to maintain boxwood carving?

For friends who have hobbies in art collection, there must be an antique shelf at home, but it doesn't mean that every piece of art can be placed directly on the antique shelf, and sometimes some methods are needed to maintain it! Today, I would like to introduce the maintenance methods in boxwood carving!

What is boxwood carving?

Boxwood carving first appeared as a three-dimensional carving handicraft. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, boxwood carving has formed an independent manual art style, which is loved by people for its vivid modeling close to society and characterization with both form and spirit. Most of the contents and themes show the characters in China folk myths and legends, such as the Eight Immortals, Shouxing, Guan Gong, Maitreya Buddha and Guanyin. Since the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, boxwood carving has been deeply loved by collectors because of its simple and elegant color, exquisite and round production technology, and it is suitable for playing and furnishings, and Zhu Zichang's boxwood carving is a masterpiece that collectors dream of.

How to maintain boxwood carving;

Method 1:

Many wooden furniture or artworks cannot be directly exposed to the sun, and boxwood carving should also avoid long-term exposure to the sun. In order to prevent wood carving from cracking and fading, remember not to put it in the window or sunrise when collecting wood carving.

Method 2:

We all know that wooden things are most afraid of touching water. Therefore, in addition to preventing the boxwood carving from directly contacting water, it is also necessary to ensure that the humidity of the place where the boxwood carving is stored is always constant. If it is too wet, mold will appear on the carved surface of boxwood. But if the boxwood carving does have mildew, we can use mesh sandpaper to polish it, and then paint it with varnish to protect it.

Method 3:

When boxwood carvings are kept indoors for a long time, it is inevitable that dust will appear. For boxwood carving whose surface is not painted, we can clean the dust directly with a brush. But for painted boxwood carving, we can wipe it with a slightly moist cotton towel. If you find that the surface gloss of wood carving is not enough, you can also wipe the surface of wood carving with a towel dipped in walnut oil, which will greatly improve the gloss.

Method 4:

Because boxwood carving is easily influenced by the outside world, if conditions permit, we can customize a glass cover for it, which will not affect your appreciation, but also protect boxwood carving. This is a way to kill two birds with one stone.

Method 5:

There may be some accidents in your boxwood carving collection, such as cracks in boxwood carving due to some external force. Don't worry about this unexpected situation. We can use a bamboo toothpick to apply a little 502 glue to the crack, and then press it by hand for a period of time, and the crack can be basically repaired. In order to avoid this situation, we should pay more attention at ordinary times.
