The standardization of archival work is a process, including the formulation, publication and implementation of archival work standards. This paper focuses on the formulation and types of archival work standards.

According to the scope and examination and approval procedures, archives work standards can be divided into national standards, industry standards, local standards and enterprise standards. (four standards)

The national standards for archival work are the unified technical requirements for archival work in China. They are drafted by the National Archives Bureau or other competent departments in the State Council, promulgated by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, and published by China Standards Publishing House or China Archives Publishing House. National standards are divided into mandatory standards (expressed by "GB") and recommended standards (expressed by "GB/T"). The validity period is generally 5 years, after which it should be revised or re-formulated. The industry standard of archival work is a technical standard uniformly implemented by the national archival industry, which is issued by the State Archives Bureau and reported to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine for the record. Industry standards are also divided into mandatory standards and recommended standards. At present, the published standards are basically recommended standards, which are expressed by "DA/T", such as Basic Terminology of Archival Work (DA/T 1-2000) and Archives Numbering Rules (DA/T 13- 1994).

The local standard of archival work is a unified archival work standard implemented in a place or a region. Generally speaking, in the absence of national and industrial standards and the need for local unified requirements, local standards can be formulated by the provincial standardization authorities, which are expressed by "DB", such as the Rules for Filing Administrative Punishment Cases in Zhejiang Province (DB33/T498-2004) drafted by Zhejiang Archives Bureau and issued by Zhejiang Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision. After the publication of national standards and industry standards, local standards shall be abolished.

The enterprise standard of archival work refers to the archival management and technical requirements that need to be coordinated and unified within the enterprise, which is formulated and issued by the enterprise. Enterprise standards generally begin with "Q".

The contents of archival work standards involve terminology standards, code standards, archival description and catalogue organization standards, indexing language standards, archival work business construction standards, and archival warehouses, accessories and various equipment standards.
