Classical philology is an undergraduate major in colleges and universities, and it belongs to language and literature major in China. The basic study period is four years, and the bachelor of arts degree is awarded.
This major trains talents who have a solid theoretical foundation and high theoretical accomplishment in classical philology, systematically master the professional knowledge and expertise of classical philology in China, master the ideas and methods of scientific research and the writing skills of research articles, and can independently undertake related work in institutions of higher learning, scientific research institutions, government agencies, news organizations, publishing institutions, libraries, enterprises and other departments.
Students mainly study the basic knowledge of ancient books collation and China classical philology, and receive systematic education and basic training in related theories, development history and research status.
After graduation, students can work in ancient books protection centers, libraries, museums, archives and related ancient books business units at all levels, and engage in ancient books restoration, ancient books protection and collation, ancient books digitization and other technical and management work. Because students generally have solid writing skills and language expression ability, strong adaptability and wide employment paths.
Traditional philology includes catalogue, edition, collation, compilation, discrimination and annotation, etc. It is the gateway and cornerstone of traditional Confucian classics and history. In modern times, besides the traditional contents, China's classical philology mainly involves the research, textual research, compilation, translation and annotation of China's ancient literary classics and modern dissemination. It is not only the basis of China's classical literature teaching and research, but also an important part of it.
