In the 8th century AD, Charlemagne, the Frankish king, unified most of western Europe and established the Carolingian dynasty. Charlemagne advocated Roman art and wanted to restore Roman tradition in culture, so a large number of scholars gathered in the capital to sort out ancient books and let artists create according to Roman style, forming a trend of reviving classical culture centered on the court.
