Chen was born in Nanjing at the age of 19 1. /kloc-at the age of 0/6, he was admitted to Central University and began to write poetry. From the age of 20 to 23, Chen has published Poems of Dreamers, Poems of Iron Horses and Poems of Dreamers. According to experts, Chen's poems are characterized by emptiness rather than description, such as a wild flower he wrote when he was 18 years old (excerpt):
"A wild flower blooms and falls on the wasteland.
Don't think about this little life, smile at the sun,
God gave him wisdom, and he knew it.
His joy, his poetry, swayed in front of the wind. "
At the age of 20, Chen edited 80 poems of 65,438+08 people, including Xu Zhimo, Wen Yiduo, Rao Mengkan, Lin and Bian He himself. More than 40 years later, Chen's wife, Zhao, commented on the Selected Poems of the Crescent: Chen, as an editor, wrote a preface of several thousand words for the Selected Poems of the Crescent. "He expounded the crescent school's views on poetry in a language that is still immature and almost gorgeous. This collection of less than 300 pages contains the works of 18 poets. Almost without exception, they are lyric poems describing love and scenery, which are short in length and largely consistent in content and style ... "Zhao's comments are very pertinent:" Dreamers are masters and representatives of crescent poets. He studied under Mr. Xu Zhimo and Mr. Wen Yiduo, but he did not have Xu Zhimo's profound attainments in western literature, and he never had Mr. Wen's understanding of the motherland and rights.
In the summer of 2007, I talked with Academician Chen Mengxiong again in Guan Ying Garden. Chen Lao said that the third brother dreamer was very arrogant since he was a child. He thinks that his second brother's dreamer is not as good as him and loves to complain, so his father doesn't value him. When Chen Mengxiong was in primary school, his third brother was studying in the Law School of Nanjing Central University, and he was already a famous poet. Chen Lao said: "I was mediocre in primary school, but I was still a little ignorant in junior high school." I was caught several times in the principal's office' eating big food' (reprimanded). High school is much better. My third brother was in Beiping at that time. He has to correct all the letters I wrote to him, underline typos and redundant sentences and send them back to me. I'm convinced!
"Three elder sister and three brother-in-law have studied in France, and often discuss knowledge with academic celebrities, with elegant posture. My third brother and I have heard a lot, which has a great influence on our future behavior and study. Although my age difference with my third brother is six years, I feel ten years behind. Third brother has a natural sense of art, and he expresses his understanding of life and nature carefully and skillfully in his poems. The room is full of third brother's new poems. I often talk about poetry with Fang and Lu Shounan, such as drizzle and long rain. "
Although Wen Yiduo thought his disciple was "too famous", he made no secret of his appreciation: "Chen is a successful example of a talented person who is willing to work hard." Poet Chen, with shoulder-length hair, is different from the secular world, and the fairy comes out of the dust. Taking writing poetry as his learning, Chen is outstanding. Colleagues commented on him, "both knowledge and eloquence are quite outstanding." 1at the end of 932, Chen arrived in Beiping, and was introduced by yenching university Institute of Religion, where he took classes for a period of time. 1934 He was admitted to yenching university Research Institute to study ancient philology, and studied under the famous ancient philologists Rong Geng and Tang Lan. At this time, Chen is a handsome and elegant scholar. Soon, Chen married Zhao, the daughter of Zhao, the dean of the College of Religion. Chen and Zhao are family friends. Both fathers are good at calligraphy and poetry. They are fellow theologians. They are friends of Si Tuleideng. Zhao is smart and handsome. When she was a teenager, she studied piano with music teacher Chen Mianzhu in Suzhou Jinghai Normal School. Chen Mianzhu is Chen's fourth sister. The wedding was held in the office of Si Tuleideng, the president of yenching university, which became a beautiful talk for a period of time. Qian Mu, a great historian, recalled that beside Zhao, "chasing a person and enjoying a dream alone, my parents' shirts fell off and smelled like China writers." "
At this point, Chen met his lover Wang, who is three years younger than him. Wang 1934 was admitted to yenching university, and his family was well-off. The Wangs have a garden of more than 20 acres in the east of Gangbing Temple on Chengfu Road near the university. Wang planted gourds, made bottles of slugs, raised eagles, pigeons and dogs, and gathered all kinds of actors here. Mr. and Mrs. Chen also moved to this park. They hired a worker to cook, went to school separately during the day and gathered in the country garden at night, which was very enjoyable. Chen loves the ancient village customs of the Red Sun Wild Trail and can reach the dusty dream of blue sky.
Both Chen and Wang collect Ming and Qing furniture, and they enjoy it and spend everything they have. Before and after the founding of the People's Republic of China, they had frequent contacts in Beijing. In 2008, 94-year-old Wang recalled that when he went to Chen Jia, Chen quickly showed him newly bought furniture or lacquerware. Wang said to him, "This one you bought is too cheap. It's mine. " Wang Mai wrote a novel, and Chen pestered him for it. Before the Cultural Revolution, Wang saw that Chen's Ming and Qing furniture was carefully blocked with ropes. He smiled and said, "Well, you have a museum here."
Alas, Chen died in 1966 man-made disaster, while Wang suffered several disasters and ups and downs. So far, he has laughed off the past and has a clear mind. The collection and research of Ming-style furniture has become a great achievement of cultural relics research in Wang's later years, which enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad. On the National Day of 2007, I stopped at the Shanghai Museum to buy Chen Mingqing's furniture from Zhao's younger brother. I can't help but sigh that life doesn't come and go often. Everything is a master and everyone is a servant. 1in June, 936, Chen, who lived in Tongfu, Beiping, published the first article in a series of articles on geography notes of the Shi-Shang Dynasty. The article said: "The Biography of the Eastern Han Dynasty has the name of Jiuyi, but there is no' Falcon'; The name of' Suiyi' has not been seen in the scriptures, and Yu was recently discovered on the Oracle bones. " Chen made a detailed textual research on exegesis, glyphs and phonology. This is Chen's early thesis, which changed the poet's arbitrariness and devoted himself to rigorous ancient history and ancient philology.
Shortly after the July 7th Incident, the dreamer and the dream bear fled Beiping together. When Chen Mengxiong was studying in The National SouthWest Associated University, Chen was a lecturer in The National SouthWest Associated University Literature Department. Academician Chen recalled: "At that time, professors took turns to take English and Chinese classes, while Luo Changpei and Zhu Ziqing took classes. Third brother teaches. I took his class and spoke it very well. The third brother didn't want to entangle politics and shook his head at my activity as the vice chairman of the student union office. "
1In the autumn of 944, Chen was recommended by Professor Fei Zhengqing of Harvard University and Professor Jin of Philosophy Department of Tsinghua University to teach ancient philology at the Oriental College of the University of Chicago for one year. Chen's goal is to visit bronzes scattered in the houses and workshops of American dignitaries and compile a catalogue of Chinese bronzes collected in the United States. During his three years in America, Chen visited museums, antique dealers and private houses with collections, looked at all the hidden ships he could find, took photos and sorted out detailed information. At this time, Mr. and Mrs. Chen were deeply saddened by the news of Mr. Yiduo's murder. Teachers and students write new poems and turn to study ancient books. At that time, Wen Yiduo and Chen "often fought for the interpretation of a word". Since then, Chen's study has been hung with photos of Wen Yiduo.
1946, Chen and Gloria of Chicago Art Museum co-edited the Catalogue of Chinese Bronzes Collected in Buckingham Palace. His persistence and achievements have been appreciated by American cultural relics. A person in charge of Rockefeller Foundation advised him to stay in the United States permanently and find him a suitable job, while Chen was anxious to return to China and Tsinghua University. He left his wife, who was studying for a doctorate in British and American literature at the University of Chicago, and returned to China in the autumn of 1947 to teach in Tsinghua, Shui Mu. In his first year back, he bought many cultural relics for the school and set up a "cultural relics showroom". Zhao recalled: "He had correspondence with almost all collectors, antique dealers and museums, and kept records of correspondence. All these materials are now kept in the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences. "
In the early days of the People's Republic of China, Mr. and Mrs. Chen taught in Tsinghua and yenching university respectively, and their lives were calm. According to Wu Ningkun, in the early 1950s, Mr. and Mrs. Chen lived in a Chinese bungalow in Longrun Garden. The flowers and trees outside are lush and fragrant. The Ming Dynasty furniture in the room is collected by Mr. Chen himself, and there are Steinway pianos in the living room. "
1952, Chen was transferred to the Institute of Archaeology of China Academy of Sciences. 1956, Chen moved to Hutong, Dongcheng District. He is a man full of interest, energy and melancholy. He is busy with his work at home, and sometimes he does some daily manual work. He is in high spirits. He has a distinct personality. He doesn't like planting flowers, taking photos or listening to songs, but he likes all kinds of operas, writing opera reviews and writing literary articles.
Chen's character is generous, and the seaside forest is his pride. He likes friends, makes many friends and often visits them. Simple and elegant tea set, several people talking loudly, relaxing their mood and getting half a day's leisure. He looks weak, but he is in good health. He works tirelessly at his desk every day 10 to 12 hours.
A scholar like Chen is a frank poet. From the perspective of years of philology research, he put forward his own views on the simplification and latinization of Chinese characters and suggested opening up a road. As a result, it caused a catastrophe that "Luo Zhang League opposes the reform of deep-water bombs" and was trapped as a rightist.
Chen endured great pain and pressure and devoted himself to academic research. 1960 was sent to Lanzhou to assist the Gansu Provincial Museum in sorting out the bamboo slips unearthed from the Han Tomb in Wuwei, and began to study the bamboo slips in Wuwei from then on. 1962 wrote the book "Wuwei Bamboo Slips", resumed the study of bronze dating in the Western Zhou Dynasty, and tried to find out the inscriptions. It is planned to complete the "Bronze Dating in the Western Zhou Dynasty" and ".
Day and night academic accomplishment was destroyed overnight by the Cultural Revolution, and a talented scholar was knocked down by rounds of criticism. He chose to commit suicide. More than 40 years later, Academician Chen Mengxiong said that when he saw the last episode of Third Brother, he still burst into tears: "On the morning of August 25th, about 1966, I received a phone call and immediately rushed to Long Fu Hospital. He is dying in the hospital bed, unconscious, and the doctor is saving him. This is the last time we meet, and it is also a silent farewell. A few days later, I also became the object of criticism from the geological department. He lived for a few days after being rescued and finally left this world on September 3, at the age of 55. "
Dreamers and dream bears were born in educational homes and grew up in liberal arts and cultural circles. The frustrations and hardships after they became scholars were similar: during the "Three Anti-five evils" movement, Chen suffered for buying cultural relics for Tsinghua, and Chen Mengxiong was robbed for buying field investigation equipment; Chen became a victim of the "anti-rightist" movement. Although Chen Mengxiong was not classified as a rightist, he was also scarred. During the Cultural Revolution, Chen died, but Chen Mengxiong narrowly escaped death. Finally survived the severe winter and reached the peak of his academic career. The tortuous experience of the two brothers reflects the fate of a generation of literati.
1930 19-year-old Chen wrote Corona Hector (excerpt): "What I want is a quiet country,/where people are no longer jealous; /I poured out my last breath calmly,/I slept quietly in the dirt in the wilderness. "
On July 3, 2006, the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhonghua Book Company and Beijing International Language Research Association jointly held an academic seminar to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the poet and scientist's birth and 40th anniversary of his death.
Chen, the name is still shining like bronze.
