Overview of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom in Four Great Classical Novels in Song Dynasty

Taiping Yulan was originally named Taiping Lei and Taiping Lei, and later renamed Taiping Yulan. Taiping Magnolia, Taiping Guangji, Wenyuan Huaying and Cifu Yuangui are collectively called the "Four Great Books of Song Dynasty".

In the early years of the Northern Song Dynasty, Song Taizong Zhao Guangyi ordered Liu Yun and others to compile "Taiping Magnolia" in the second year of Taiping Xingguo (AD 977), which was completed in the eighth year of Taiping Xingguo (984) and in December of * * * six years. According to Hui, Taiping Magnolia was compiled on the basis of Xiuwen Temple Magnolia and Yiwenhe. Song Dynasty's Record of Retirement from the DPRK in the Spring and Autumn Period said, "After the book was written, Taizong read three volumes every day and Zhou at the age of one, so it was named." At the same time, there are books compilation and Taiping Guang Ji. Taiping Yu Lan has 1000 volumes and is one of the largest books in the Song Dynasty. There are more than 1690 books in the index, and seven or eight of the ten books are not in circulation today, which is enough for textual research. This book is divided into fifty-five chapters. Emperor Gaozong of the Qing Dynasty said: "Song Taizong has a sense of shame, because he gathered scholars for three books, Taiping Yulan, Taiping Guangji and Wenyuan Huaying, to discuss the private views of Caochang." In Qing Dynasty, when Wang Mo compiled Notes on Geography Books of Han and Tang Dynasties, he said: "There are 1,690 kinds of books in Taiping Palace and about 300 kinds in the mainland, which are richer than other kinds of books." Ma Nianzu, a neighbor, compiled eight kinds of ancient books, such as Notes on Water Mirrors. After verification, it was said that the number of books cited in Magnolia was 2579.

Among the existing editions of Magnolia, the Fujian edition of the Southern Song Dynasty collected by the Japanese Jingjiatang Library is the oldest. It was first owned by Lu Xinyuan, a bibliophile during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. After Lu Xinyuan died, his son sold Song Lou's books to the Japanese at a price of100000 yuan. In the Ming Dynasty, there were two versions, namely "Ni Bingxiao's Engraving Edition" and "Movable Type Edition". During the Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty, there were "Zhang Haipeng's Engraving Edition", "Wang Changxu's Movable Type Edition" and "Bao Engraving Edition". During the Guangxu period, there were "Guangdong Reprinted Bao Ben" and "Lithographic Bao Ben". 1928, Zhang Yuanji discovered "Southern Song Dynasty Books" in Japan, namely "Southern Song Dynasty Pu Shuxian Books". There are two volumes of this edition in Japan, one in the library of Miyauchi Province and the other in Dongfu Temple in Kyoto. 1935, four series and three editions, published by the Commercial Press.
