Kuraishi Takeshiro's personal profile

Kuraishi Takeshiro (1897-1975), a native of Takata City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Kuraishi Takeshiro is an honorary professor at the National University of Tokyo, the dean of the Japan-China Institute, a member of the Oriental Society, and the Chinese Linguistics Research Association. Chairman of the Board of Directors, winner of the Second Class Honor and the Ruibao Medal, winner of Japan's Asahi Cultural Prize, and researcher of Chinese linguistics and literature. His father, Kuraishi Masakichi, was a student of the famous thinker and Fukuzawa Yukichi. His typical scholarly family background made him associated with ancient books since he was a child. In 1922, he entered the Graduate School of Kyoto Imperial University, the center of Chinese studies in Japan at that time, and engaged in research under the guidance of Kano Naoki, Naito Torajiro and other founders of Chinese studies. In 1926, he served as a lecturer at Kyoto Imperial University and was promoted to assistant professor in 1927. From 1928 to 1930, he was sent to study in Beijing by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
