The history and legend of Yidi wine making in Yidi

There are many records in historical records that "Yidi made beautiful wine" and "began to make wine mash". It seems that Yidi was the ancestor of wine making. Whether this is true remains to be verified. There is a saying that "Yidi makes wine mash, and Dukang makes rice wine." There is no distinction between eras here. It seems that they are making different wines. Moromi is a kind of fermented glutinous rice made from fermented glutinous rice. It is warm and soft in nature and sweet in taste. It is mostly produced in Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Many families today still make their own glutinous rice. The glutinous rice paste is white and delicate, and the thick glutinous rice paste can be used as a staple food. The clear juice on it is quite close to wine. 秫, another name for sorghum. Dukang's winemaking refers to the fact that the raw material used in Dukang's winemaking is sorghum. If we insist on identifying Yidi or Du Kang as the founders of wine, we can only say that Yidi is the founder of rice wine, and Du Kang is the founder of sorghum wine. There is a saying that "the rise of wine originated from the Emperor and became the result of Yi Di". This means that since the time of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors in ancient times, various wine-making methods have been popular among the people. It was Yi Di who summarized these wine-making methods and spread them to later generations. Of course, those who can carry out this kind of summary and promotion work are not ordinary civilians, so some books identify Yidi as an official in charge of wine making, which is probably not unreasonable. There is a book recording that after Yidi made wine, Yu once "defeated the order to drink wine and sparse Yidi", which also proves that Yidi was an official very close to Yu. What era is Yi Di from? Compared with Du Kanglai, the records in ancient books are more consistent. For example, "Shiben", "Lu Shi Chunqiu", and "Warring States Ce" all believe that he was from the era of Xia Yu. What kind of job does he hold? Are they craftsmen in the wine-making industry, or are they subordinates of Xia Yu? Where was he born and where was he buried? There is no conclusive historical data to test. So, how did he invent wine? "Warring States Policy" said: In the past, the emperor's daughter ordered Yi Di to make wine and make it beautiful. When it was introduced to Yu, Yu admired it and liked it. Then she left Yi Di and ordered the wine, saying: "In future generations, there will be people who will destroy their country with wine." '. This record is more detailed than the records about Dukang's wine making in other ancient books. According to this record, the situation is roughly as follows: Xia Yu's woman asked Yi Di to supervise the brewing of wine. After some hard work, Yi Di made the wine that tasted very good, so she offered it to Xia Yu for tasting. After Xia Yu drank it, he felt that it was indeed very beautiful. However, Xia Yu, who was regarded as a wise king by later generations, not only did not reward Yidi for his merits in making wine, but also alienated him from then on. Not only did he no longer trust and reuse him, but he himself was cut off from fine wine. What else is said: There will definitely be kings in future generations who ruin their country because of excessive drinking. As a result of this record being circulated in the world, some people respected Xia Yu even more and regarded him as an honest and open-minded monarch. Because of Yu's evil decree, Yidi's image became that of a villain who specializes in flattery and advancement. This is really something that historians did not expect. So, is Yi Di the originator of wine? There are also statements in some ancient books that contradict the "Shiben". For example, Kong Yu, the eighth grandson of Confucius, said that Emperors Yao and Shun were both kings who drank a lot. Huangdi, Yao, and Shun were all older than Xia Yu. Yao and Shun, who were older than Xia Yu, were all good at drinking. Who made the wine they drank? It can be seen that it is not accurate to say that Yi Di, a subordinate of Xia Yu, started making wine mash. In fact, making wine with grain is a very complicated process and process, and it is difficult to complete it by one's own strength. No matter how talented Yi Di was, it seemed unlikely that he would be the first to invent wine making. It is still possible to say that he was a craftsman or master who was good at brewing fine wine, or an official who supervised brewing. He summed up the experience of his predecessors, perfected the brewing method, and finally brewed mash with excellent texture. Therefore, Guo Moruo said that it is said that Yu Chen Yi Di began to make wine, which refers to a wine that is sweeter and stronger than the wine in primitive society. This argument seems more credible.
