Do you have to know traditional Chinese characters when writing running script?
Traditional Chinese characters are favored by most painters because of their many strokes, great font changes and rich form and meaning. At the same time, it is almost inevitable in the process of calligraphy learning, because the ancients wrote China traditional calligraphy, and so did the inscriptions. However, in history, traditional Chinese characters were used, and in modern times, simplified Chinese characters were used. Both of them can be used as the basic fonts of calligraphy. For example, in many ancient posts we can see, especially in running script and cursive script posts, the font has already appeared the same simplified writing method as modern simplified Chinese characters. As for whether it is necessary to know traditional Chinese characters when learning calligraphy, although it is inevitable, it is not necessarily so. From the perspective of social development, it is probably the general direction and necessary to minimize the frequency of using traditional Chinese characters. For calligraphers, I am afraid the same is true.
