Methods, types and places of taking reading notes.

There are various ways to take notes. Here are some methods that can be used:

1, underline-underline the main points or important and powerful sentences.

2. Draw another line outside the underlined column-emphasize again what you have drawn, or a certain paragraph is important, but if the bottom line is too long, put a mark outside the whole paragraph.

3. Mark the blanks with asterisks or other symbols-use them carefully, just to emphasize more than a dozen most important statements or paragraphs in the book. You can fold a corner at the marked place on each page, or put a bookmark, so that you can pick up the book from the shelf at any time and open the marked place to remember it.

4. Numbering in the blank space-When an argument of the author develops a series of important statements, it can be numbered in sequence.

5. Write other page numbers in the blank-emphasize the arguments put forward by the author in other parts of the book, or related views, or views different from here. Doing so can unify the communication ideas of the whole book, and many readers will use symbols such as CF to express the meaning of comparison or reference.

7. Take notes in the margin-when reading a chapter, you may have some questions (or answers). Write them in the blank space, which will help you remember your questions or answers. You can also simplify complex arguments and explain them in the margin. Or write down the development order of all the main arguments in the book. The last page of the book can be used as a personal index page to record the author's main points in order.

There are some places in the book that can be used as reading notes: the blank pages in front of the book are best used to record your thoughts. After reading a book, write down your personal index on the last blank page, then turn back to the previous blank page and try to write the outline of the whole book. Is this outline a measure of whether you understand the whole book?

When checking reading, we should read with questions. Because I'm not sure which day I may pick up this book for analysis and reading again, I should write down the questions and answers. The best place to take these notes is the table of contents page or the title page.

It should be noted here that these notes mainly focus on the framework of the book, not the content-at least not the details, so we call such notes structural notes.

Ok, let's talk about reading notes. There are usually three kinds: structural notes, conceptual notes and dialectical notes.

The above mentioned structural notes, so what is a concept note?

In the process of reading, especially a long and difficult book, you may catch some ideas that the author wants to express on this topic. But usually you can't do this, so in this level of reading, your notes are no longer related to structure, but to concepts. These concepts are the author's opinions.

There is a more advanced way of taking notes in the subject reading process, that is, taking notes for a discussion scene. We like to call such notes dialectical notes. Because this is summarized from many books, not one book, it usually needs to be recorded on a separate piece of paper. At this time, we will use the conceptual structure again to list all relevant statements and questions in order on a single topic.
