This is the third lecture of Peng Xiaoliu’s online course - how to read a book intensively.
Before we start talking about the method of intensive reading, let us first think about the following question.
Do you also feel that you have read a lot of books, but you may not understand them? Remember them and use them.
When we read a new book, we must be able to make full use of our existing knowledge base, use the new viewpoints in the book, and the new cognitions we have generated to impact the existing knowledge base, and then integrate these Knowledge is incorporated into the existing knowledge base.
Reading usually serves two purposes. One is to obtain information and only read things that can be understood. One is to gain understanding. In addition to knowing the author's point of view, you also need to understand why he said it.
There are two ways to read. One is the ordinary reading method. You just know this thing, which is a process of passive acceptance. The other is the advanced reading method. You have to know why and how to do it. It is a process of active exploration.
Intensive reading is an advanced reading process.
The method of intensive reading is divided into the following four points:
1. Questioning
2. Disassembling
3. Practice
4. Integration
Regarding questions.
Why should you ask questions before reading a book?
In fact, when we were in Chinese class, the Chinese teacher always wrote a few questions on the blackboard and asked us to use the questions to find the answers. Or maybe our English teacher always asks us to read the reading questions before reading the original text. There is only one purpose, to deepen understanding.
In fact, the questions asked before reading a book are the same. Reading a book with questions will help you think more and be more purposeful. Will sort out and reflect on the knowledge in the book.
So what can we ask to gain a better understanding of the knowledge in the book?
1. What relevant knowledge do I already possess. For example, when I read the book on control, I have to ask what knowledge I already have about control.
2. What new knowledge have I learned. After reading this book, you have to ask yourself. Did you read it or understand it?
3. What other unknown things can I learn through simple exploration? Its simple exploration includes how to speed, how to read thematically, and how to read intensively.
4. What other unknown things are worth my long-term exploration? Long-term exploration includes learning mental models, thinking models, cognitive psychology, etc.
About dismantling.
Just because you have read a book does not mean that you understand it.
When decoding new knowledge in books, using in-depth knowledge to expand and revise existing knowledge can get rid of the phenomenon of only knowing superficial knowledge.
There are three ways to solve the problem:
1. Not only look for the conclusion, but also the process. It can use identification, judgment, and summary methods to first mark keywords, then find out the corresponding relationships, draw a structure diagram, and finally summarize the topic in one sentence. On what basis, from what aspect, the sentence pattern can explain what problem.
2. Not only summarize, but also extend. RIA method can be used. Among them, R is the reading fragment, I is the restatement of the content, and A is the extension of the relevant part of your own experience and the development of future plans. That is, what are the relationships in your life that are related to it, and what solutions will you have to deal with this situation in the future.
For the RIA method, I recommend Teacher Qiuye's "How to Read a Book Efficiently". There are a large number of models in the book to expand your thinking, which is deeply inspiring. It turns out that knowledge can still be played in this way.
3. Not only compare similarities, but also look for differences. For example, there are many books on reading. In the three books "How to Read a Book", "You Can't Read Books, You Still Want to Succeed", and "The King's Speed ??Reading Method", they all talk about speed reading methods. .
What's the same point? What's different?
Find the differences and integrate different viewpoints. I believe you will have a great breakthrough in reading confusion.
About practice.
When we learn new knowledge, we must continue to use it, memorize it and operate it repeatedly, just like the question-sea tactics, so that it truly becomes ours.
So what kind of exercises are effective?
1. Feedback. For example, if you read a book and write an article about it, you have to accept good and bad comments from others. This is a kind of feedback.
2. Practice in different scenarios. Three effective practice scenarios are provided:
(1) Writing: Writing is a kind of output. You want others to understand your point of view, and to convince people, you need careful thinking, which requires us to Only by thinking and chewing on new knowledge repeatedly can we reach a higher level. Mind mapping and reading notes do not require such a process. They are just moving other people's things.
(2) Games: For example, after reading a book on stock trading, play this type of game. You can practice knowledge in games to deepen your impression.
(3) Design: Use existing knowledge to solve a specific problem by designing a solution. For example, design a theme sharing; read a book on building IP, design a personal brand roadmap, etc.
I recommend everyone to watch the program "Logical Thinking". Each program is carefully designed by a team to present us with such wonderful things.
3. Rewards: Only by giving yourself sufficient rewards can you have the motivation to continue~Rewards vary from person to person~
About integration.
It is the same as integrating your various knowledge modules through a certain relationship to form a complete knowledge system. For the knowledge integration of a single book, the integration of multiple books is a construction.
1. Migration: cross-border. Perhaps you will see similar viewpoints in two books in different fields. At this time, you can integrate them to deepen your understanding and interpretation of a certain knowledge and viewpoint.
2. Confirmation: look for patterns. Use the pyramid principle to analyze the structure of books and sort out the context of books. In fact, you will find that most books are discussed in this structure, and there must be similarities between them.
3. Complementarity: On the same topic, find discussions from completely different perspectives and combine them together to get a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of this topic.
Well, today’s sharing ends here. Welcome to communicate with me~
