Master Hongyi: I have never hesitated between Buddha and love.

The famous love monk Tsangyang Gyatso said: There is peace in the world, and the Dharma is as good as the Tathagata.

Buddha and love are a dilemma for others, but Master Hongyi has never hesitated.

He was a bohemian throughout his life. He was a romantic in the first half of his life and a monk in the second half of his life.

His original name was Li Shutong, a famous musician, art educator, calligrapher and drama activist. After returning from studying in Japan, he worked as a teacher and editor. Later, he was ordained as a monk. He was revered as the eleventh generation founder of the Vinaya Sect and was known as Master Hongyi.

Zhang Ailing said: Don’t think that I am an arrogant person. I have never been. At least outside the walls of Master Hongyi’s temple, I am so humble.

Lin Yutang said: Li Shutong is one of the most talented geniuses of our time, the most unique person, and the most independent person.

The world thinks so highly of him. In fact, the legends of great men are often paved with the sadness of ordinary people.

His so-called compassion hurt two women.

His married wife, Yu, gave birth to three children for him. She spent her whole life missing and waiting for him, and she never saw him for the last time until her death.

His Japanese wife Fukui stayed away from home and followed him to China, but he eventually became a monk and had her sent back to his country.

Fuji asked: What is love?

He answered: Love is compassion.

Fu Qi asked sadly: "You are compassionate to the world, but why do you want to hurt me?"

He was speechless and turned away.

This is Li Shutong, Master Hongyi, who can be compassionate to the world, but ruthlessly hurts his own relatives.

Li Shutong is a second-generation rich man who was born with a golden key. His family is a wealthy family in Tianjin. They have been engaged in the salt and silver industry for generations. He was acquired by his father when he was 68 years old. Son, extremely loved.

Li Shutong showed amazing intelligence in his childhood. When he was still learning to speak, he could recite couplets with his old father.

He became the hope of his family's glory, but he fell into a wrong relationship and fell in love with a famous actress. In the end, the famous actress became a concubine in a wealthy family. He was depressed after his breakup.

In order to relieve his depression, his brother and mother quickly married him to wife Yu.

He has no feelings for Yu, all because of what the matchmaker said.

At that time, it had become the norm for intellectuals with advanced ideas not to like their first wives, and he was no exception.

Mrs. Yu is a lady of the family, gentle and virtuous. On the surface, he respects each other as a guest, and they have three children with Mrs. Yu, but Mrs. Yu has never won his heart.

Li Shutong came to Shanghai with his family in 1898. In this ten-mile foreign market, like all the children of wealthy families and literary young people, he wrote and was high-spirited.

At the same time, he also lingered in the entertainment venues and had heated relationships with the courtesans, but the Yu family never interfered and tried their best to keep the family calm.

During that time, Li Shutong's talents were maximized.

In order to support the student movement, he voluntarily dropped out of school and joined the new academic organization "Shanghai Society". In the Shanghai Society, Li Shutong's articles were repeatedly ranked first, and he was favored by Shanghai's celebrities. He also He was regarded as a "talented man" and became famous in Shanghai.

He joined cultural societies, founded speech workshops, organized students to perform new plays, and became a man of the hour.

Mrs. Yu thought that she was silently the woman behind him. As long as she was by his side, she would have a home and love. However, she was wrong. Li Shutong never belonged to the family. He yearned for the vast world.

In 1905, Li Shutong's mother passed away, and he lost control of his family. He left his wife and children in Shanghai and went to Japan to study.

In Japan, he met his second wife, her name was Fuki.

Fuji knew that he had a wife and children, but he was still willing to follow him without any regrets. He traveled thousands of miles, abandoned his home and country, and followed him to China.

After Li Shutong brought Fuji back to China, he lived with her in Shanghai, while Yu lived alone in Tianjin.

Fuji and Li Shutong have been together for 11 years, and they have always been in love with each other.

But she never expected that one day Li Shutong would escape into Buddhism and break away from her worldly thoughts.

Hangzhou and Nanjing have been places of Buddhism since ancient times. It is said that "there are 480 temples in the Southern Dynasties, and there are so many towers in the mist." Hangzhou has even more temples, more than 2,000 large and small.

Li Shutong taught in Suzhou and Hangzhou, and felt the ethereal spirit of Buddhism. He decided to become a monk.

When Fuji hurried over, searched all over Suzhou and Hangzhou, and finally found him in a temple, but at this time, he was nowhere to be found.

Fuji had no choice but to face the closed temple door and asked sadly: "You are compassionate to the world, why does it only hurt me?"

As for Ms. Yu, perhaps she was already disheartened, perhaps she was used to waiting alone, so she refused her family’s request to retrieve Li Shutong: “I won’t go, because he can’t come back. ”

05

Fu Qi returned home sadly and was never heard from again.

She never thought that her persistence in love would lead to the tragic ending of returning home alone.

Mrs. Yu stayed alone in her empty house for most of her life. Even when she died, she did not wait until Li Shutong came to see her, nor did he say a single word. How could she be so ruthless and compassionate?

Li Shutong spent half of his life as a romantic and spent a lot of money, and half of his life as a monk, practicing the discipline himself.

To a certain extent, he is always the dandy from a wealthy family in Tianjin. No matter how mature and prudent he is, no matter how frugal he is, he only follows his heart in doing things. He will study abroad if he wants, and fall in love if he wants. If you fall in love, if you want to become a monk, you will become a monk.

Live your life as you please, be true to your feelings and your nature, and be loyal to your own choices.

He wants to be a God-like existence, and God belongs to the world, but does not belong to any one person. If you have feelings for God, you are destined to be hurt.

After thinking about this, I feel relieved.
