Appreciation of Lu Ban, the Founder of China Classical Architecture

Luban: the founder of the construction industry

most

Lu Ban, surnamed Gong Bo, was born in Lu (now Shandong) at the end of the Spring and Autumn Period. Born in a craftsman's family, Lu Ban studied and participated in construction work since childhood, and accumulated rich experience.

Lu Ban is an outstanding inventor. He has made inventions in machinery, architecture, handicrafts and so on. Folk craftsmen in our country all respect him as "Grandpa".

Legend has it that when he saw birds flying in the sky, he cut them into pieces with bamboo and wood, and flew in the air for a long time with the help of the wind, but they did not fall. He once built a "ladder" for siege, and also made a wooden cart equipped with organs.

On the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, folk craftsmen burn incense and worship to the statue or memorial tablet of Luban on this day, in order to pray for safe and auspicious building and avoid casualties. In Hong Kong, June 16th of the lunar calendar is the "Luban Festival" for Luban's birthday. No matter how busy the construction project is, it is necessary to take a day off. On the same day, craftsmen will go to Luban Temple and light candles to worship the statue of Luban to wish the coming year.

Story skills

During the Spring and Autumn Period, Lu Ban's talents were appreciated by the monarch of Lu State. One year, King Lu asked Luban to build a palace within three years. It was very difficult at that time, not to mention laying the foundation. It was difficult to get all the needed wood in a short time.

This made Lu Ban very worried, because the timber delayed the progress of the project, which was a crime of deceiving the monarch; Sin is a trivial matter for yourself, and it also involves a large number of craftsmen. To this end, Lu Ban was worried for several days without sleeping.

In order to speed up the progress of wood, Luban goes up the mountain every day to select the wood to be cut. At first light, Lu Ban stepped on the morning dew and went up the mountain in advance.

In order to catch up with the time, Lu Ban took a shortcut to climb the mountain. The slope is steep and slippery, covered with shrubs and weeds, which makes it very inconvenient to walk. He had to climb the tree and pull up the thatched roof. I rolled down the hill because I didn't hold my hand firmly. Ruban stood up awkwardly, feeling the pain in his palm. When he opened his palm, his palm was dripping blood. Lu Ban was very surprised: "It's just thatch. How can you cut my palm?"

Regardless of the pain, Lu Ban climbed up and pulled off a thatch to observe. He found the thatched leaves strange, with small sharp teeth on both sides. When you hold it tightly, your palm will be cut. Lu Ban picked up a thatch and pulled it on his finger. Sure enough, he opened another blood hole.

Lu Ban was deeply inspired by this: if you imitate the fine teeth of thatch and make a tool with fine teeth on the blade to saw trees, will it be more convenient than chopping with an axe?

With the help of craftsmen, Lu Ban made an iron bar with many fine teeth on both sides, which was fast and labor-saving. This is how the saw was invented.

Intrigue against each other

Intrigue is also writing "intrigue". Heart: the center of the palace. Angle: cornice angle. Each cornice angle points to the center, which is called "hook center"; The cornices are opposite to each other, like fighting a corner. This is called "fighting a corner". This word originated from the Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu's "A Fang (Qin Qin ng) Palace Fu": "Each holds its own terrain and cheats on others." The original intention is that the internal and external structure of the palace building is exquisite and neat, and later generations use this as a metaphor for all kinds of intrigue, which is derogatory.
