Introduction to Master Zhicheng

Master Zhicheng, whose common names are Zhou Wenlong and Zhou Wenhua, once used the Dharma name Ren Ren. He was born in Beicao Village, Tai County, Jiangsu Province in 1908. He became a monk on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month when he was seven years old. His ancestral sect is Linji. . Master Zhicheng has successively served as the president of the Shantou Buddhist Association, the honorary president of the Guangdong Buddhist Association, the abbot of Chaozhou Kaiyuan Temple, Suzhou Chengtian Temple, and Anbu Linghe Temple; a director and honorary director of the National Buddhist Association, and has been elected as Representative to the 6th Shantou Municipal People's Congress, member of the Standing Committee of the 6th Municipal Political Consultative Conference, member of the 5th Guangdong Political Consultative Conference, etc. Master Zhicheng is erudite and talented, capable of poetry and writing, has profound attainments in Buddhism, and has extraordinary attainments in calligraphy. In the 1930s, he wrote "Dafang Guangfo Huayan Sutra" with blood on his tongue, and compiled "History of Chaozhou Buddhism" and "History of Buddhism in Shantou City". The master loved his country and religion throughout his life, promoted Dharma and benefited living beings, was willing to stay in poverty, and was very thrifty. He was a eminent monk in modern times. In April 1994, Master Zhicheng peacefully passed away in Yuanjue Jingshe, Shantou City, Guangdong Province.
