Why are the words on the tablet written with a brush instead of printed?

Before the Tang Dynasty, calligraphers first wrote words on stones with a brush, which was called a "book list", and then asked masons to carve them. It can be seen that many stone carvings are bounded by squares, that is, vertical and horizontal boundaries.

If you are a famous sculptor, you will often leave your name after the inscription. For example, Zhuge Li Shen in Preface to Kings, Shi Hua in Multi-Tower Induction Monument, Shao Jianhe and Shao Jianchu in Mysterious Pagoda Monument are all world-famous.

Later, I cherished the original work, first wrote it on paper, determined the mold, and then carved it on the stone by craftsmen. Therefore, Zhao Mengfu's three notes, Danba's tablet and Qiu E's epitaph all have paper originals.

Professor Tian mentioned in his calligraphy lecture that the inscription he wrote with his heart was carved beyond recognition by craftsmen with poor craftsmanship. It can be seen that how to restore the ribbon of paper calligraphy on the stone tablet and then show the face of Fengshen is indeed a science.
