Because he was studious and talented, he was proficient in classical poetry, calligraphy and painting, as well as eight-legged essays. At the age of 19, Fang Yaoyu passed the county examination and became a scholar.
Fang Yaoyu, 1869-1954, was originally from Zhenhai, Zhejiang, and later moved to Chengguan Town, Dinghai. Tianjin Fang Yaoyu, together with Zhang Shuxun of Shanghai and Luo Luozhao of Chongqing, was known as Zhang of the south and Shuluo of the north and was one of the three most prestigious collectors in the field of ancient coins during the Republic of China. Fang Yaoyu was born in 1869, the eighth year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty. His original name was Fang Ku and his courtesy name was Yaoyu. Later, he felt that suffering must be the beginning of suffering, so he changed his name to Ruo.
