Xu Shiping was born in Zhangjiagang City, Jiangsu Province in 1969. He graduated from the undergraduate calligraphy class of the Academy of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University in 1992. He is currently a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, a specially appointed calligrapher of the Jiangsu Provincial Traditional Chinese Painting Academy, and a member of the Creative Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Young Calligraphers Association. Works at the School of Education, Soochow University. In 1989, he won the Outstanding Work Award in the "National Joint Exhibition of Painting and Calligraphy of Teachers and Students of Colleges and Universities". In 1995, he won the third prize of the "Lanting Calligraphy Festival" and was selected for the "Sixth China Youth Exhibition". In 2000, he won the third prize of the "Eighth National Youth Exhibition", the first annual exhibition of "Calligraphy Herald", and the Grand Prize of the Suzhou Youth Exhibition. 2001 "Jiangnan Style" Exhibition of Ten Young Calligraphers from Wu Sect. In 2002, he won the first "Lanting Award" creative works exhibition and published "Xu Shiping Calligraphy Collection". In 2003, he won the calligraphy gold medal of the Ministry of Culture's "Stars Award" and was selected into the "Eighth National Exhibition" and "Cursive Calligraphy Exhibition".
