What is the function of the seal on calligraphy works?

There are roughly three kinds of seals on calligraphy works: first seal, corner seal and name seal.

First, the first letter

Used in the upper right corner of the work near the first and second characters, the shapes are rectangular, gourd-shaped, beaded, half-moon, etc. , its content is mostly the name of the house, the place name of the place of origin or the aphorism with few words.

The first printing is used more, but it is not necessary.

Second, pressure angle printing

Used in the lower right corner of the work is slightly higher, mostly square, and the content is mostly sentences or idioms that the author likes.

In modern calligraphy, corner printing is rarely used.

Third, the name seal

Used to sign a work, one or both parties. One side is often engraved with the author's name; On both sides, the author's surname is printed on the top and the author's name is printed on the bottom; The name is printed on it, and the author's font size is printed on the bottom.

Double-sided seal, the most common is square, followed by round. Generally speaking, Zhu is used at the top and white is used at the bottom.

A work can't have too many seals, and the number is generally odd: 135.
