"Unparalleled blessings come today, and misfortunes do not come alone last night" means - everything is smooth sailing from now on, happy things happen one after another, and the bad things that should happen are all over.
Blessings are unparalleled: It means that it is impossible for several good things to happen at the same time. Today, it means that several good things must happen today.
Misfortune never comes singly: It means that several bad things come together at the same time. Yesterday's misfortune means that all bad things have passed.
Unparalleled blessings come today, misfortune never comes alone. Last night is also a couplet. Speaking of this couplet, there is another allusion:
The calligrapher Wang Xizhi of the Eastern Jin Dynasty moved to Zhejiang from his hometown in Shandong one year It was the end of the year in Shaoxing, so Wang Xizhi wrote a Spring Festival couplet and asked his family to post it on both sides of the gate. The couplet is: "Spring breeze, spring rain, spring scenery, new year, new year, new scenery." Unexpectedly, because Wang Xizhi's calligraphy was world-famous and admired by people at the time, the couplet was taken away at night as soon as it was posted.
After his family told Wang Xizhi, Wang Xizhi was not angry. He wrote another one and asked his family to post it again. This copy reads: "The orioles sing in the north, and the swallows sing in the southern suburbs." Unexpectedly, when I saw it at dawn, it was taken away again.
But today is New Year’s Eve, and the next day is the first day of the Lunar New Year. Seeing that every door in the neighborhood has Spring Festival couplets posted on it, but the door in front of her own house is empty, Mrs. Wang is anxious. Urging her husband to think of a solution. Wang Xizhi thought for a moment, smiled, and wrote another couplet. After finishing writing, he asked his family to cut off a section of the couplet and post the upper section on the door: "Good luck never comes in pairs, and misfortune never comes alone."
As expected, someone came to steal the secret again at night. But looking under the moonlight, I saw that this couplet was written very unluckily. Although Wang Xizhi is a famous calligrapher, he cannot take away and post this couplet full of dangerous predictions. The person who came to steal it had no choice but to sigh and sneak away under the cover of night.
At dawn on the first day of the Lunar New Year, Wang Xizhi went out in person to paste the lower halves that he had cut yesterday. At this time, many people were watching. When everyone saw it, the couplet turned into "Fu Wushuang Comes". Today comes, misfortune never comes alone." Everyone saw it, cheered in unison, and clapped their hands.
