How did Emperor Taizong and Wang Jue know each other?

Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong, was a famous wise king in history. From 627 to 649, Emperor Taizong reigned for 23 years, which initiated a glorious era in the history of China-the rule of Zhenguan, and opened the prelude to the prosperous period of the Tang Dynasty. The politics, economy and culture of the Tang Dynasty were in a leading position in the world at that time. An important reason for the prosperity of Zhenguan is that Emperor Taizong knew people and was good at his duties.

As early as when Tang Gaozu Li Yuan went to the Western Seas, Li Shimin, king of Qin, not only made great efforts, but also showed extraordinary courage and courage in knowing people and doing his job well. Li Shimin opened a mansion and a museum in it, which attracted literary scholars from all over the world, such as Du Ruhui, Fang, Yu Shinan, Chu Liang, Yao Silian, Kong and other 18 well-read scholars, all of whom held bachelor's degrees in the literature museum and received generous treatment. This also made the painter Yan Wei paint a portrait, and made a eulogy for Chu Liang, known as the "Eighteen Bachelor". In the process of fighting for heroes, we got many brave warriors, such as Wei, Qin, Duan and Li Shiji. , all under Qin Gong, are brave. These people have become the curtain raisers, counselors and soldiers of the King of Qin. In 626 AD, Li Shimin launched the "Xuanwumen Change", won the throne, and changed to Zhenguan the following year. As the king of a country, Emperor Taizong deeply realized the importance of talents for governing the country and paid more attention to knowing people and being good at their duties. In his government, there are many talents, which constitute a talent center. The civil servants and military commanders at that time all belonged to the king of Qin.

According to historical records, Emperor Taizong knew people well and was good at their duties, mainly in four aspects-

Be generous and forget the past.

Emperor Taizong "promoted internally without avoiding relatives, promoted externally without avoiding enemies", so most talented people were included in the high-level leadership group, including those under the former Prince Li of the East Palace. After Li's death, many people in the East Palace Group were hostile to Emperor Taizong, but Emperor Taizong was sincere, appointing people on their merits and serving them with sincere talents. This is the case with the famous admonisher Kevin·Z and the man of insight Wang Jue. Another example is Wei Chijingde, who used to be a general under Liu Wuzhou. In 620, he and another general surrendered to Emperor Taizong. Shortly after the rebellion, people suspected that Wei Chijingde would rebel, so they imprisoned him and suggested that Emperor Taizong kill him. However, Emperor Taizong released Wei Chijingde and comforted him by saying, "Gentlemen commit themselves to each other. Please don't take this little misunderstanding to heart. I will never listen to others to hurt loyal warriors. " Wei Chijingde was deeply moved, and later made many brilliant achievements for Emperor Taizong. This tolerance of Emperor Taizong resolved the contradiction, gave people who had stood on the opposite side a chance to change and became useful talents in governing the country.

Foster strengths and avoid weaknesses.

Fang and Du Ruhui are two famous faces. They are not good at judging cases and handling chores, but they are good at planning and deciding state affairs. Fang is resourceful, and Du Ruhui is good at sizing up the situation, which is sometimes called "family destruction". Therefore, Emperor Taizong regarded Du Fang as his servant, and later he was used as prime minister. Together, they helped the country and became the hero of Emperor Taizong's management of the world. Dai Zhou, who knew nothing about history, was honest, so he was invited to Dali Temple to be a young official and be responsible for hearing cases. As a result, he was extremely capable and never had a backlog of cases, which won the appreciation of Emperor Taizong. Sun Chang Wuji is good at planning and quick to respond. Since ancient times, no one can compare. But he is not good at leading troops to fight, and he is not good at governing the country. Gao Shilian dabbled in ancient and modern times and was knowledgeable. He never wavered his integrity in the face of difficulties, nor did he form cronies for officials. What is lacking is the courage to speak out and make suggestions. According to this feature, Emperor Taizong appointed Sun Chang Wuji as the official minister and Gao Shilian as the assistant, so that they could do their best. As "Biography of Wang Xuan in the New Tang Dynasty" said: Wang Xuan has a clear understanding of people. On one occasion, Emperor Taizong asked him to judge people. Wang Xuan replied: "I am diligent in serving the country and know everything. I am not as good as Ling Xuan; He is also a good civil and military official, and he will enter the phase. I am not as good as Jing Li; The application is detailed, the cashier is only allowed, and the minister is not as good as Yan Bo; To help many dramas, many people must do it. The giant is not as good as Dai Yi; Taking remonstrance as the heart, it is better to levy ministers than to insult the monarch. At the time of turmoil, illness is evil and goodness is long. " Emperor Taizong was very grateful after hearing this.

Open-minded, sincere, and dare to accept the teaching of others.

An outstanding performance of Emperor Taizong's good at employing people is that he has a popularity that ordinary emperors do not have to dare to remonstrate. He and Wei Zhi, one who dared to speak out and the other who was good at coachable, became the first famous monarch and minister in history. Emperor Taizong believed that "the monarch, though ignorant, is sacred when remonstrating", and "listening to others is bright, and partial belief is dark", so he encouraged his subordinates to remonstrate and expanded the power of remonstrating ministers. Any inappropriate imperial edict should be made clear and disobeyed. Wei Zhi was honest, and Emperor Taizong appreciated him and was very polite to him. Wei Zhi went to Chen Qi for dozens of times, while Emperor Taizong was humble to coachable, and accepted good advice. Once, in 626, shortly after Emperor Taizong ascended the throne, he ordered some soldiers. At that time, the Tang system stipulated that only people over 2 1 year-old could choose, but Minister Feng Deyi said that tall and strong men over 81year-old could also point soldiers, which was agreed by Emperor Taizong. Wei Zhi rejected three or four imperial edicts and refused to publish them. Emperor Taizong was furious and summoned for questioning. Wei Zhi said, "You often say that you want to rule the world with honesty, but since you took the throne, you have broken your promise to the people several times in just a few months. How can you say that you rule the world with integrity? " Emperor Taizong turned anger into joy, admitted and corrected his mistake, and gave Kevin·Z a golden urn. Later, when Wei Zhi died, Taizong said sadly: "People can dress with copper as a mirror; Looking at the past as a mirror, we can see the rise and fall; Take people as a mirror, you can know the gains and losses. Wei Zhi died and I died in the mirror. " . Emperor Taizong also went to Lingyange to write a poem on Wei Zhi's portrait: "Beauty destroys frost, Taiwan star loses its position. Only you cry on the cloud platform, and there are no summer people in the air. "

Strict criteria for selecting talents

At the beginning of the establishment of the Tang Dynasty, the tradition of valuing martial arts over writing handed down from the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties remained unchanged. Many ministers were born in the army and fought bravely and invincible, but governing the country is no longer an industry. Therefore, Emperor Taizong set the criteria for selecting officials in two important aspects: talent and virtue. This fundamentally affected the system of selecting officials and examinations in the Tang Dynasty. Officials below grade six are selected by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Ministry of Military Affairs. The basic four criteria are: being a good person (physically), judging words (eloquence), being good at writing (excellent in arts and sciences), and being selected step by step by virtue, talent and labor. Officials with more than five grades are assessed according to their achievements, and finally the emperor decides for himself. Because of this, the regular script of the Tang Dynasty was second to none in history, and a calligrapher like Yan Zhenqing was produced. Because the content of the imperial examination was poetry and songs, "Tang Poetry" was very popular in history. Emperor Taizong also followed the imperial examination system of the Sui Dynasty, increased the ways and scope of selecting officials, and provided good opportunities for ordinary scholars, which was more reasonable than the original recommendation system. To this end, Emperor Taizong said happily: "All heroes in the world have fallen into my trap!"
