1. Know the running script
Running script developed with the development of regular script and cursive script. It is a writing style between regular script and cursive script. If stippling is biased towards regular script, people call it running script. If it is cursive, it is called cursive. Whatever you call it, it's in the running script sequence.
Some people say that to learn running script well, we must learn regular script well, but this view is not necessarily correct. It can only be said that if you want to learn running script well, you must know the writing method of regular script, at least know the writing process of regular script, which is the key.
2. Know how to write calligraphy.
As mentioned earlier, the strokes of running script are not exactly the same as those of regular script, and some of its strokes can be "brushed", but in the process of "brushing", certain brushwork should be observed.
The brushwork of running script omits some brushwork in regular script, such as the stroke after the head of the pen, which can be replaced by a sharp pen, and some strokes can also be replaced by a sharp pen, without the action of returning the pen.
The main strokes in the running script are: centering, unfolding, turning in and out, lifting and pressing, hiding the front, etc. In fact, this is also the basic process of writing a stroke, but the running script also contains the above brushwork.
3. Show your spirit and actions
Exercise is the main feature of running script. Running script is too rigid, it will become regular script, so it can't be called running script. Where does spirituality come from?
One is to learn to use wrist strength. Don't be too blunt when writing. Solving stiff problems mainly lies in your wrist. Usually, we should form a habit of using our wrists, learn to use them, and we will have skills in doing things. The same is true of writing. If you are free, you can practice this habit in the air.
The second is to grasp the breath on the basis of stippling. The stippling of running script has a sense of movement, and every word should show this breath. Only when there is breath can there be style. Such as "flowing clouds", refers to the breath. There must be a connection between two stipplings and two words, so that the breath will live.
4. Read more posts and copy more.
Reading posts is a process of learning the brushwork and glyphs of predecessors. By reading posts, we can increase our sensory ability and make people's brain thinking follow the copybooks of predecessors. Copying is also a process of enhancing practical ability. Through the writing at hand, we can turn cognitive ability into writing ability. In the long run, you will be familiar with your hands and eyes.
5. Font principle
In addition to stippling, there is also its font. If the stippling is exquisite and the font is in place, you will feel that the running script has reached a very beautiful realm. How to grasp the font characteristics?
The first is the difference in size. No matter which ancient people, including Wang Xizhi's running script, didn't write every word in the same size, which is a sign to distinguish between good and bad calligraphy.
The second is the principle of retraction. We can't write every word very carefully or very loosely. Only when we put it in and out freely and properly can we be considered to have reached the realm of beauty.
The third is density. Running script writing, dense strokes should be dense, sparse strokes should be open, in line with the laws of nature.
