Not taking shortcuts is the best shortcut

When I first started learning calligraphy seven years ago, I remembered the words of Teacher Tian Yingzhang, "The best shortcut is not to take shortcuts."

Taking shortcuts and not taking detours is a principle that all smart people must adhere to when doing things. But there are few things in the world that do not involve detours, and so-called shortcuts do not exist in reality.

A straight line is just an abstract concept in mathematics. There is no real straight line in real life. The light that we think travels in a straight line is actually distorted.

Some writing enthusiasts are eager for success and have not worked hard on basic skills. They have not read 10,000 books and written one million words. Work hard, work hard to find tips, and achieve quick results.

Really successful people, truly smart people, do not take shortcuts. It is said that Zeng Guofan used the stupidest methods in his wars, but he often won. With his wisdom, he should be familiar with military books, but he has never used any military art because he knows that the so-called "strategies" are double-edged swords and are risky.

Lao Tzu said, "Great wisdom is like foolishness." Real great wisdom is beyond the understanding of ordinary people. There is actually no secret to the success of the invention king Edison, it is just love and diligence. He spent his wedding night in the laboratory, usually worked more than sixteen hours a day, and almost never left the laboratory in his life.

In order to invent the electric light, he tried more than two thousand materials, but all failed. In the end, even his assistants and family members couldn't bear it and persuaded him to give up.

Of course he did not give up, otherwise there would be no incandescent light that influenced and changed the world. The reporter asked him how he felt after failing more than 2,000 times. He said that I did not fail. I just found that more than 2,000 materials were not suitable for making filaments.

So success is not a result, but a mentality and concept.

I remember that when I was a student and after I started working, I read many books on "how to write" and "composition secrets", but I still couldn't write compositions or articles. Now I no longer read those texts that teach people how to write, but my thoughts are flowing like a spring, which is simple and touching.

Yu Hua said: "The secret of writing is only one word, which is to write. After writing for twenty or thirty years, writing becomes your life. People want to take shortcuts, just like learning English. I I asked my friend if there was any shortcut, and he told me that there is only one way, which is to memorize words. The dumber the person is, the better he learns, because he is willing to work hard.”

In order to learn speech after work, I bought and read almost all the books on speech and eloquence. After sixteen years, I still can’t speak because I don’t have a podium. It wasn't until 2003 that I participated in a public speaking training class and suddenly had a breakthrough in speaking. Then I taught speeches to college students, served as wedding master of ceremonies, and served as host.

Some people say that success is very simple. One is to start and the other is to persevere. In fact, these two are the easiest and the most difficult. Because many people are unable to start because of fear, and many people are unable to persist because of laziness.

Successful people are not the smartest people, but the most honest and down-to-earth people. Great successes are people with the highest moral standards.
