Why is Kang Youwei an outstanding calligrapher of the tablet school?

Kang Youwei not only publicized and expounded the thought of stele study in theory, but also was an outstanding calligrapher of stele study in practice. In his early years, he studied calligraphy under two kings: Europe, Yan, Su, Mi and Zhao. In the eighth year of Guangxu (1882), he entered Beijing and bought hundreds of Tang and Song steles from the Han, Wei and Six Dynasties. Since then, he has been immersed in the daytime, "so he suddenly realized the right and wrong of calligraphy" ("Tan in Zhou Shuang, Guang Yi"), so he specialized in studying the North Monument. The North Monument is dominated by Shimen Ming, with stone valleys, 60 portraits and Yunfeng Mountain stone carvings. After seeing Zhang Yuzhao's book, it realized the brushwork, and then spilled into cursive script, washed away all the dust, and became a unique style, forming a heroic style of replenishing potential, opening up potential, slowing down branches and being willful. There are many works handed down from generation to generation, such as Poem Axis to Qingdao Old House, Birthday Fu Juan, Seven-character Poem Axis, etc.
