Zhao Mengfu (1254-1322), whose courtesy name was Ziang, also known as Songxue, Songxue Taoist, Shuijinggong Taoist and Oubo, was named Mengfu in his middle age. He was Han nationality and a native of Wuxing (now Huzhou, Zhejiang). He was the most influential calligrapher in the Yuan Dynasty. His calligraphy was mainly in regular script, but also included some cursive scripts. His representative works include "Danba Stele", "Shenfu Guanji" in cursive script, and "Thousand-Character Classic" in cursive script. Zhao Mengfu was erudite and talented, able to recite poems, understand economics, master calligraphy, refine painting skills, understand music, interpret and appreciate, especially in calligraphy and painting, he had the highest achievements. He created a new style of painting in the Yuan Dynasty, and was known as the "Yuan man" Crown". Zhao Mengfu's calligraphy continues the past and the future in the history of Chinese calligraphy. It has a huge influence on the calligraphy circles of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and has a high reputation and many followers. As a master of calligraphy and painting, Zhao Mengfu has been in contradictory, complicated and embarrassing situations almost all his life. After the fall of the Song Dynasty, Zhao Mengfu returned to his hometown to live leisurely. In 1286, he was recommended to Kublai Khan, the emperor of the Yuan Dynasty, and was received by the emperor of the Yuan Dynasty as soon as he arrived in the capital. Emperor Shizu of the Yuan Dynasty appreciated his talents and gave him various courtesies. From then on, he became an official of the Yuan Dynasty. As a surviving official of the Southern Song Dynasty and serving as an official in the Yuan Dynasty, Zhao Mengfu caused a lot of controversy in history.
In the 29th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1292), Zhao Mengfu was appointed as the general manager of Tongzhi Jinan Road. There was a local man named Yuan Jie'er who served in the salt field and escaped because of the hardship. His father falsely accused a fellow laborer of having Gaier killed. Zhao Mengfu suspected that there was injustice involved and did not make a judgment immediately. A month later, Gaier returned to the salt field on his own. Everyone in the county praised Zhao Mengfu for his ability to predict things. Qian Lian visited Weiha, the procurator, to assassinate Hasun. He was cruel and slanderous because Zhao Mengfu did not comply with his wishes. It just so happened that the imperial court was about to revise the "Shizu Shilu" and summoned Zhao Mengfu to return to the capital, so nothing happened. Later, Zhao Mengfu was transferred to be the magistrate of Fenzhou, but before he could do so, he was ordered to write the Tibetan Scriptures in gold characters.
