The story of the Overlord of Western Chu and Yu Ji

One theory: Yu Ji is from Tashi Village, Shaoxing, Guyue, not from Jiangsu. Tashi Village is located at the foot of Beauty Mountain. There are many families with the surname Yu here. It is adjacent to Zhuji, the hometown of Xi Shi, and Lanting, a calligraphy resort. There is a legend about the famous Yu Ji, and there is also the Yu Ji Temple. Unfortunately, the original Yu Ji Temple has been destroyed by the war.

Another theory is: Yu Ji (? - 202 BC), a native of the late Qin Dynasty, known as Yu in history. Another theory is that her surname is Yu, and she was a native of Yanji Township, Shuyang County today. Within the township, there is a meandering half of Yuji Valley, which is named after people. Along the ditch are Rouge Well, Bawang Bridge, Jiulongkou, Dianjiangtai, Xiangzhai and other historical sites.

According to historical records: Yu Ji was the concubine of Xiang Yu, the overlord of Western Chu, and she often accompanied Xiang Yu on his campaigns. In the later period of the conflict between Chu and Han, Xiang Yu was on the verge of defeat. In 202 BC, he was besieged by the Han army in Gaixia (south of Lingbi County in present-day Anhui Province). His soldiers were short of food and he heard that he was besieged on all sides at night. Drinking wine in the camp and singing an elegiac song: "Strengthening the mountain, the world is full of energy, the times are unfavorable, the time is not going away, what can be done if the time is not going away, what can be done if the time is not going away, what can I do if the time is coming?" The lyrics are desolate and tragic, and the emotions are lingering and pathos. It is known as "Gaixia Song" in history. . At this moment, this all-powerful figure also expressed the lament that the love between children is long and the hero is short-tempered. Yu Ji, who was accompanying her, drew her sword and danced sadly, and sang in harmony with him: "The Han soldiers have captured the territory, and Chu songs are heard from all directions; the king is exhausted, how can this humble concubine live?" After singing, he killed himself to stop Xiang Yu from looking back. Personal love stimulated Xiang Yu's fighting spirit, hoping to break through successfully. Yu Ji is so upright and loyal to love that people still praise her. During the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty, the people of Yu Ji's hometown built the Yu Ji Temple in the west of Yanji Town to worship this heroine. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, fellow villagers Wu Jiuling and Ye Xianglin built a central hall and an apse for the temple. The temple has a majestic appearance, and a statue of Yu Ji in military uniform is enshrined in the main hall, which shows the high reverence of the people in their hometown for Yu Ji.

Yuan Mei, a famous writer and poet in the Qing Dynasty, once served as the magistrate of Shuyang County. When he returned to Shuyang 43 years after leaving office, he made a special trip to Yanji Township to pay homage to Concubine Yu. "Temple" poem, and self-note: "According to legend, Yu was also a poet." The poem goes:

I owe a poem to Yu Ji, who came to the ancient temple again.

The three armies have dispersed and the beauties are here. Who is the martyr woman of the Six Kingdoms?

Death has become a spiritual home, and the soul is still dancing with grass and wet rouge.

Beside the seat is a statue of Wu Zui, so that he can visit the king and ride under the moon.

During the Republic of China, the Yuji Temple was built. During the Anti-Japanese War, it was destroyed due to disrepair due to war.

With a long history, Shuyang has many folk legends about Yu Ji for thousands of years; there is also a shocking historical tragedy in Peking Opera - "Farewell My Concubine".

Xiang Ji (232 BC - 202 BC), courtesy name Yu (note in particular that Xiang Yu’s real name is courtesy name Yu), was born in Xiaxiang (now Suqian, Jiangsu Province). The grandson of Xiang Yan, the famous general of Chu State, the leader of the ancient Chinese uprising, a famous military strategist, and the first military general in ancient China! He is known as the Overlord of Western Chu. After the fall of Chu, the Xiang family was brutally massacred. He and his younger brother Xiang Zhuang fled to Wuzhong (today's Suzhou, Jiangsu) with their uncle Xiang Liang. When he was young, Xiang Liang once asked someone to teach him calligraphy and poetry, but he got tired of it after a while. Later Liang asked someone to teach him martial arts, but he stopped learning after a while. Liang was furious! Ji said: "Studying literature is only about remembering names; learning martial arts is just about being able to defeat a hundred with one; if you want to learn literature, you can only learn how to defeat ten thousand people!" So Liang taught him the art of war. But after learning for a while, he was unwilling to learn anymore, so Liang had no choice but to follow him and ignore him. He was eight feet tall, capable of carrying a tripod (the origin of the term "overlord holding a tripod"), and had the power to overwhelm tens of thousands of men. He had extremely lofty ambitions when he was young. Once when Qin Shihuang was on a patrol crossing Zhejiang (today's Qiantang River), Xiang Yu saw the majesty of his chariots and horses, and blurted out: "He can replace him (I can replace him)." In the first year of Qin II (209 BC), Chen Sheng , Wu Guang raised his arms in Daze Township and rose up (i.e., the Daze Township Uprising). Xiang Yu followed his uncle Xiang Liang to assassinate the prefect Yin Tong in Wuzhong and raised his troops to respond. In this battle, Xiang Yu killed nearly a hundred of Yin Tong's guards alone, showing his unparalleled power for the first time. Martial arts! The 24-year-old Xiang Yu was pushed onto the stage of history by the storm of people's uprising.

Xiang Yu’s Spirit

“I was born as a hero, and died as a ghost hero. I still think about Xiang Yu and refuse to cross the Yangtze River.”

Wherever I put my pen, Upright and dignified, it penetrates people's chest and points directly to their spine. "Be born as a great man, die as a ghost." This is not an exquisite combination of a few words, nor is it a clever embellishment of a few words. It is a condensation of the essence, a carrier of courage, and a fearless attitude towards life.

That kind of awe-inspiring character and awe-inspiring righteousness filled the world, making ghosts and gods change their colors in vain. What is "as" is also "as", a woman! The delicate and boneless hands, the delicate and weak body, the tenderness of the performance, winding around the fingers and heart, the sadness cutting into the bones, the exquisiteness and touchingness can't be added. Through her consistent writing style, she is reflected in her aura of being famous in the literary world as "the sect of the graceful school". When the strength of the pen tip rises and the strength of the pen tip appears, this tenacity and momentum are so great, dare I ask how many men in the world can match it?

"I still miss Xiang Yu and refuse to cross the Yangtze River." The female poet recalled the Chu tyrant named Xiang Yu, followed Xiang Yu's spirit and integrity, and hated the peaceful political affairs of the Song Dynasty. It is said that taking a step back, the sea and the sky are vast, just a river away, but it is the boundary between life and death. In just one thought, it is the difference between life and death. Xiang Yu, in order to live up to his reputation as a hero, live up to his seven-foot-long body, and live up to the trust of his elders in Jiangdong, died in retribution. "Refuse"! Not "can't", not "don't want to", not "unwilling", not "won't go". The charm of a "unwilling" pen is better than the miraculous craftsmanship, and higher than the creation of heaven and earth. A kind of "killable
