I will copy for you a copy of "Senior Monk Xuyun's Teachings on Precepts, Keeping Precepts, and Breaking Precepts"
I will not just single out the paragraphs about the consequences of breaking precepts. Read this article in its entirety. The effect should be better, right?
A. Introduction
The meaning of precepts
is to stop evil and generate good, to stop the ten evils and five inverse sins, such as preventing flowing water, It is like protecting the eyes and cultivating good dharma, which is called precepts. The Daji Yueyi Sutra says: "All benevolent people, the meaning of abstinence from desire is the meaning of precepts, the meaning of liberation is the meaning of precepts, the meaning of rest is the meaning of precepts, the meaning of completeness is the meaning of precepts, and the meaning of annihilation is the meaning of precepts. This is The meaning of each sentence is called the meaning of precepts. ’ When the Buddha was about to enter Nirvana, Ananda asked the Buddha who he had as his teacher when he was still alive. Who would he take as his teacher after his death? The Buddha said: 'Take the precepts as a teacher', so we, Buddhist disciples, can only have a teacher if we can uphold the precepts. If we do not practice the precepts, it is equivalent to having no teacher to teach! However, in the Buddhist Vinaya, there are many precepts about the discipline, including five precepts for lay people, eight fasting precepts, and ten good precepts, etc., ten precepts for monks, two hundred and fifty precepts for monks, and three hundred and fifty precepts for bhikkhunis. Bodhisattva's Ten Layers and Forty People take light precepts and see the Sutras and Laws widely. In short, they are all based on the five precepts. If we can keep the basic five precepts pure, it will be easy to keep other branches.
B. The merits of observing the precepts
1. Overview
As the saying goes: "It is easy to receive the precepts but difficult to keep them!" "It is indeed reasonable, but it also depends on whether our roots of kindness are shallow or deep, and whether we have faith or not?" If the disciples of the Buddha are strict and pure in discipline, who would not respect them? All Buddhas and Bodhisattvas still protect their thoughts, how much more should they be protected by heaven, dragons, ghosts, gods and
human beings? It is like the sandalwood in the furnace, and the wonderful fragrance is diffused everywhere. The so-called fragrance of precepts, concentration, wisdom, liberation, and knowledge of liberation. The fruity fragrance of these five parts of the Dharma body is also obtained from the cause and place of precepts. As the Sutra of Precepts Incense says : "The Buddha told Ananda that there are many fragrances in the world.
You can only smell them by following the wind, but they cannot be heard by everyone. If you uphold the Buddha's pure precepts and perform good deeds, the fragrance of such precepts will be heard in the ten directions. Everyone praises it, and all demons stay away." As the Chang Agama Sutra says: There are five merits in observing the precepts: First, your wishes come true. In both cases, property gains will be increased but not lost. Third, wherever you live, everyone loves and respects you. Fourth, good reputation and good reputation are known all over the world. Fifth, when the body breaks down and the person dies, he will be reborn in heaven.
The Four-part Rule states the ten merits of keeping the precepts:
1. If you satisfy your aspirations and can keep the precepts, your body and mind will be pure, your wisdom will be clear, and all your vows will be fulfilled if you practice wisdom.
2. As the Buddha learned, when he first started cultivating the Tao, he took the precepts as the basis, and after obtaining enlightenment, he was able to adhere to the precepts. This is also what the Buddha learned.
3. A wise person will not destroy, his moral conduct will be pure, and his body and speech will have no fault. Any wise person will be happy and praise, but will not destroy his zi.
4. Vow not to retreat, adhere to the precepts, seek to realize Bodhi, vow to work hard, and never retreat.
5. Stay in the right conduct, adhere to the prohibitions, keep the three karmas pure, and stay in the right conduct without giving up.
6. If you give up life and death and observe the prohibitions, you will not have to kill or steal, and you will be able to escape from life and death and the suffering of reincarnation forever.
7. Adhere to the joy of Nirvana, adhere to the abstinence, and avoid all delusions, so you can be disgusted with the suffering of life and death and long for the joy of Nirvana.
8. Achieve an unentangled mind, clear moral principles, a clear and pure mind, free from all worries and karma, and no worries.
9. To win samadhi, keep the precepts and be pure, and the mind is not distracted, then you will achieve samadhi, your determination will be present, and you will surpass all outflows.
10. If you have no shortage of faith and wealth, abide by the precepts, and have correct faith in all Buddhist Dharma, you will be able to generate all merits and virtues, and there will be no shortage of Dharma and wealth.
大
The Jixianhu Sutra says: Those who become monks should first uphold the pure moral conduct. If the moral conduct is pure, they will be able to obtain the present Samadhi and achieve supreme Bodhi. The Sutra of the Four Heavenly Kings says: The four heavenly kings observe the good and evil deeds of people on six fasting days every month, so as to enlighten the emperor and enlighten him. If he observes the precepts, the emperor will be happy and order the good gods to support him and follow the precepts. How much, if you keep one precept and have five gods protect it, and if you have five precepts and have twenty-five gods protect it, then life will be peaceful, life and death will be in heaven. I always talk about the merits and virtues of observing the precepts.
2. Don’t say it
The "Five Precepts" are the first not to kill, benevolence, the second not to steal, righteousness, the third not to commit sexual misconduct, courtesy, the fourth not to lie, faith. Fifth, do not drink alcohol and be wise. The five precepts of Buddhism are the five constant principles of Confucianism. They are easy to understand when you think about them.
1.
The great merits of observing the precept not to kill are the first, followed by the precept not to kill. In Hinayana, the precept of sexual intercourse comes first, and the precept of killing comes second. Since we are tired of life and death, we must give up sexual desire. The bodhisattva's career is to benefit living beings, to spread the Dharma is his household chores, to have compassion as his foundation, and to use convenience as his door to save all living beings in the nine dharma realms. That is to kill future Buddhas and past parents; the Brahma Net Sutra says: "All men are my father, all women are my mother, and I am born without exception
Since then, all living beings in the six realms are my parents. If you kill those who eat you, you will kill my parents and my dead body!" The "male and female" mentioned here generally refers to the fact that there are male and female in all six realms. In the Heart and Earth Contemplation Sutra, there is a saying about repaying kindness to all living beings. It refers to birds and beasts that are near, and beasts with feathers and armor. It talks about the six realms and four lives from afar. These living beings have been each other's parents, brothers, sisters, husbands, and children since time immemorial. , but now they have changed their appearance, and they don’t recognize each other! Not only did they not repay their kindness, but they also killed each other and betrayed their gratitude. What a pity!
How pitiful! For example, Master Lianchi said in the article on abstinence from killing and release of life: "Don't kill during childbirth, don't kill after death, don't kill when you get married, don't kill when celebrating a birthday, don't kill at banquets, and don't kill when offering sacrifices to ghosts and gods!" You will know more from the article on release of life. The Ksitigarbha Sutra
said: "If you meet someone who kills, he will suffer disaster and a short life!" The Sutra of Cause and Effect of the Three Generations says: "What is the reason for longevity in this life? In the previous life, people abstained from killing and released people." Therefore, the merits of not killing are I can feel that longevity and disease-free are predestined for all living beings, and that there is peace and equal retribution in the world.
The following scriptures will be cited as evidence:
(1) The Sutra of Responsibility for Sins and Blessings says: For a person to live a long life, there is nothing Diseases and physical strength come from observing the precepts. Those who like to kill living beings will spend their lives floating on the water, living and dying in the morning and evening.
(2) The Dharma Chanting Sutra says: If you have the karma of killing in your previous life, your life span will be short and your life will end quickly.
(3) Viposha said: If a person observes the precept not to kill, he will be determined not to encounter disasters caused by swords or weapons in the future life.
(4) The Lankavatara Sutra says: All evil Rakshasa, after hearing the Buddha’s teachings, abandon their nausea, stop eating meat, and exhort each other to develop bodhicitta, protect the lives of others, and protect themselves.
(5) The Great Solemn Discourse: A number of bhikkhus were walking in the wilderness and were plundered by thieves. He said: The bhikkhu's method does not harm the grass, so he bound his hands and feet with the grass and left. Bhikkhus
I am afraid that I will violate the prohibitions, so I will continue to be bound by grass and hide in the same place, waiting for someone to rescue me! As for the next day, the king went hunting, saw it and asked about it, and found out the truth. The king was moved, he understood its grass roots, said a verse to praise it, and invited the bhikkhu to the country to receive the refuge ordination.
(6) The Soma King Sutra says: In the past, Sakyamuni was a powerful poisonous dragon. He was able to return to his country and move mountains. He fasted for one day and lay quietly on the mountain. His skin was peeled off and his naked flesh was left on the ground. , and was bitten by insects, knowing that if you keep the precepts, you will die from the sun!
(7) The Great Solemn Theory: A bhikkhu went to beg for food at a pearl seller's house. By chance, a pearl fell to the ground and was swallowed by a goose. The bead master thought the bhikkhu had stolen it! The blood is dripping from the beating, and the goose comes to eat the blood, but it is not intended to be beaten to death! The bhikkhu then said that the bead was swallowed by a goose and the results of the dissection were there. The bead master blamed himself and confessed to the bhikkhu! And praised his virtue. (The story of a bhikkhu rescuing a goose)
2. The merits of keeping the precept of abstaining from sexual intercourse. I am a Buddhist disciple. If I want to get rid of my troubles and escape from the major events of life and death, I must engage in sexual intercourse first. The precepts are pure, as bright as ice and snow. Not only is the body forbidden to engage in sexual immorality, but also the mind is free from pollution. By keeping the precepts in this way, the person will have full energy, long life without disease, and moist skin. The appearance is rich and colorful, and it is not afraid of the cold in winter and the heat in summer. No matter which method you practice, if you can easily concentrate on reciting the Buddha's name, you can achieve enlightenment by practicing meditation, and you can also respond by practicing esoteric secrets. The ancients said: "If you can penetrate this level in life, you will be free from the world." The Arahant. "As the Heaven Asks Sutra verse says: "Having few desires is the most peaceful, contented with great wealth, upholding the precepts always strictly, breaking the precepts is always ugly.
"The scriptures are then quoted to prove the merits of observing the precepts of obscenity:
(1) The example of the scripture says: There was a great scholar named Kalava, who was upright and intelligent. He became a monk and followed the precepts. One day, a widow came to a large house to beg for food. The widow wanted to have sex with the bhikkhu. The bhikkhu refused. The woman angrily asked her maid to lift her into a pit of fire and force her to obey. The bhikkhu stopped talking and allowed me. Thinking about it, he thought to himself, "I will die as a dead person in the fire!" If I die because of upholding the precepts, I will be reborn in heaven. If I break the precepts and commit adultery, I will die and fall into hell. Then I will jump into the fire and the fire will suddenly change. The monk was not harmed by the cold water, and the woman was ashamed, so she sent the monk to leave in peace.
There was a novice in Tuo Kingdom who was ordered by his master to go to the home of Upasaka, the donor, to welcome the food offerings. At that time, Upasaka's whole family was out, leaving only a woman to guard the door. When the woman saw the novice, she felt happy, her desire was burning, and she offered it to all the demons. /p>
Mei forced the novice to become an adulterer, but the novice could not escape, so he abstained from the precepts and defiled the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. He took a girl behind closed doors and picked up a bayonet. Then he knelt down with his palms together and went to the place where the Buddha entered nirvana in Kushina City, and made a vow on his own. I will not abandon the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha to uphold the precepts and sacrifice this body and life.
I wish to become a monk and learn Taoism in my future life. I will be pure in the holy life. I will cut off my neck and die!
3. Those who hold the precept not to steal can steal from others, and this leads to the seven disciples, the so-called monks and nuns, Shicha. The things stolen by Manas, novices, novices, Upasakas, and Upasikas collectively refer to animals such as men and women, cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, cats, dogs, fish, turtles;
Gold, silver, gems, jade, rocks, sediment and other minerals. , firewood, bamboo, wood, vegetables, flowers, fruits and other plants, airplanes, ships, trains, clothes, quilts, utensils, in short, no matter what the reward is, everything is not your own, and you must not take it. Not only
A needle or a blade of grass cannot be stolen. At the same time, you can use all your possessions, do what you can, and give to all sentient beings. If you keep the precepts in this way, you will have many merits. People will be happy in this life and will be prosperous and wealthy in the future. The Cause and Effect Sutra says: "What is the reason for wealth in this life?" They all came from people who did not steal and gave alms in previous lives
! "For example, the Second Theft Precept of the Brahma Net Sutra says: "If a Buddha steals from himself, teaches others to steal, steals by means of convenience, steals mantras, steals causes, steals connections, steals Dharma, steals karma, and even ghosts and gods have the power to rob the thieves, all property will be stolen. , a needle or a grass should not be stolen; and a Bodhisattva should have the Buddha-nature of filial piety and compassion, and always help all people to be happy and happy, but whoever steals people's property instead is a Bodhisattva Parayi sin! ”
4. The virtue of adhering to the precept not to lie is not to lie. If you have any, you will say something, and if you don’t, you will say nothing. If you have no talent or merit, How difficult is life for a few people in a family! All true; at the same time, for others, the wise speak wisdom, the fool speaks foolishness, the same applies to men, women, old and young. : “The Tathagata speaks the truth, speaks the truth, does not lie, and does not speak in different ways. "So it is said that if you don't tell lies for three generations, your tongue can reach your hair; Ami
In the Sutra, the Buddhas in the six directions send out their long and wide tongues to cover the three thousand worlds, speaking the truth and expressing faith. Sakyamuni and All Buddhas, the golden mouth is true, the bliss of Amitabha, and the power of vows are great and profound. If we can believe and recite the Buddha's name and decide to be reborn, Gude said: "Amitabha is very easy to recite, and the ultimate happiness is very easy to arise." Sincerely This is not a false accusation. Another example is that when Sakyamuni was King of Puriming, he went to Huayuan one day and was captured by the King of Spots. He asked him why he was so afraid of death. The answer was not that he was afraid of death. /p>
Death, because my precept of not telling lies has been broken! Only then did he agree to come back to the palace within seven days. King Puming also went to the palace, gave a large donation, and asked Master Bai to ascend to the throne to preach. A Dharma Master said a verse about the Four Impermanences: "When the calamity of fire ends, the universe will be clear.
The huge sea of ??Xumi is all covered in ashes, and the two rituals are still dead. What will happen to the country?" ! "Read the Prajna Sutra of Renwang in detail. Seven days later, he saw Madarazu again. In order to say this verse, it was also to achieve enlightenment. By saying it over and over again, everyone understood the mind and nature. We all live here together
Practice the Tao, so it is called the Great City of Wangshe. The merits of coming here and abstaining from lying are great.
5. The merits of abstaining from drinking alcohol are many. If there is rice. It is made from wheat flowers, fruits, grapes, etc. If the fruit and rice are not used to make wine, the rice can nourish the roots and sustain life. It is obvious that the wine cannot be eaten as food! The fault of wine will be discussed in detail below.
No
What are the merits of drinking alcohol? ⑴ Pure wisdom,
⑵ Know and behave upright, ⑶ Respect the Three Jewels, ⑷ Be filial to your parents, ⑸ Serve your teachers; as for fasting, chanting Buddha's name, meditating, studying esoteric practices, etc., these are all easy to achieve, but drinking alcohol will do the opposite! At the same time, there are five guardian gods who guard the temple day and night.
The first four of the five precepts are the sexual precepts, and the fifth is the drinking precepts. Not to mention the merits of keeping the precepts.
C. Errors in violating the precepts
1. Overview
I
As mentioned above, in the Vinaya Pitaka, the precepts There are many aspects, including worldly precepts, such as the Five Precepts, the Eight Precepts, the Fasting Precepts, and the Ten Good Precepts. There are supramundane and minor vehicle precepts. All in all, if we who have received the Buddha’s precepts violate it, it will be a huge sin! No matter which precept is violated, such as killing, stealing, committing adultery, etc. As long as you have a hobby and want to reincarnate and achieve the holy fruit, it will be difficult to be reborn in the Pure Land! . If you don't take the precepts at home and don't understand the Buddhist principles, you will end up in the nest of ignorance, the cage of the three realms, and ignore it! Now, if a Buddhist disciple violates the precepts, what should be done about this kind of mistake? The detailed citation of Tripitaka proves it as follows:
1. Shizi Moon Buddha Jataka: Lotus monks are often relatives and friends of kings, elders and lay people. If they indulge in evil ways and fail to observe the precepts, they will end up in bad health. , because of deception, he fell into the Abi Hell!
2. Sutras collected by Fu Gai Zhengxing: Those who break the precepts are helpless, just like a broken car that cannot be carried!
3. Mahayana Incarnation Mind-Earth Meditation Sutra: If a person becomes a monk, does not protect the forbidden precepts, is greedy for worldly happiness, and destroys the Buddha's precepts and treasures, such a monk will not be called a monk.
4. The Sutra of Xiang Fa Jue Doubi: In order to seek liberation, a monk must first abstain from sin and take the precepts as the first priority. If you do not follow the precepts, no good deeds will arise, just like a person without a head, all appearances will be ruined, and you will be called a dead person!
5. The Chang Agama Sutra: Violating the precepts has five consequences: 1. Failure to achieve what one wishes; 2. If one does not gain anything, the day will be wasted. 3. Wherever you go, no one respects you. 4. A bad name spreads throughout the world, the five bodies are destroyed, and one is destined to go to hell.
6. Sutra Chapter 42: The Buddha said that the Buddha is thousands of miles away from me and remembers my precepts. You will definitely get the fruit of Taoism. Even if you see me around me, if you don't obey my precepts, you will eventually lose the way.
7. Four
Five points: There are five faults in breaking the precepts: (1) Self-inflicted harm, the person who breaks the precepts, body, speech, mind and deeds are all unclean, often suffer poverty, good gods are far away ! (2) For those who are criticized by wisdom and violate the precepts, all good bhikkhus will blame them and always avoid them. Like a corpse of evil death
. (3) People who spread bad reputations, break the precepts, have three impure karma, and live with evil people! Good people are disliked, and bad names are heard far and near. (4) Those who regret their lives and break the precepts will die in old age! The evil situation is now, regret is too late!
(5) Those who die and fall into the lower realms. Those who violate the precepts will fall into the lower realms as they have failed in the holy life and have no good causes. After all their blessings and sufferings, they will fall into the lower realms!
8. The Buddhist Sutra says: A bhikkhu who breaks the precepts will have to cut off his body to repay the benefactor for hundreds of thousands of kalpas. If he is among the animals, his body will always be burdened! . So what? If a hair is broken into hundreds of billions of points, a broken monk cannot use up even one point of the offering, let alone many kinds!
9. Root Nidhana said: Those who break the precepts will not even eat a bite of food in the monk's residence, and will not allow a single foot in the Kalam land!
The seriousness of the crime of violating the precepts:
(1) Violating the precepts of others - For example, if the four heavenly kings live to be five hundred years old and fall into the mud plow, they will be counted as nine hundred thousand years old in the human world.
(2) Offending Paratishani - For example, if one has a life span of thirty-three days and a thousand years, he will fall into hell, and the number of years in the human world will be 360,000 years.
(3) Offending Boyiti - Like a flaming sky with a lifespan of 2,000 years, falling into hell, counting 2,440,000 years in the human world.
(4) Being guilty of stealing Lanzhe - For example, Tusita had a lifespan of four thousand years, fell into hell, and counted five billion and sixty thousand years in the human world.
(5) Offending the Sangha Poshasha - Rubuqiao Lotte is eight thousand years old, falls into hell, and counts two hundred and three billion and forty thousand years in the human world
(6) Offending Parasi - If he transforms into a free world and has a lifespan of sixteen thousand years, falls into hell and lives in the human world, he will live for nine hundred and twenty-one hundred million sixty thousand years.
2. Don’t talk about the fault of violating the precepts (5)
1. The fault of violating the precepts of adultery
In ancient times
Virtue said: 'all evils' Adultery is the first, and filial piety is the first.
'Sexual lust will be excessive, the spirit will be depressed, the sexual power will be weak, the face will be yellow and the flesh will be thin, the mind will be extremely weak, many diseases will shorten the life, and you will be afraid of wind, cold and heat! As the merit gradually dissipates, the spiritual wisdom becomes blinded!
At the same time, other evil deeds followed! For example, due to the relationship between lust and power, ordinary people drink alcohol, eat meat, play and dance, etc., all of which are the vanguard of lust! Even if you practice chanting the Buddha's name and meditating, etc., if you continue to have lustful desires, you will not be able to achieve the results. Isn't it dangerous to lose what you have gained in the past?
If this life is like this, it will be difficult to escape the three evil realms in the future. Gude's verse says: "Although the taste of pornography is sweet and poisonous, it can drain the essence, consume the soul, damage the muscles and cause fatigue, and if you don't take it, it will hurt your life!" ’ Buddha said. ‘Those who break the precepts are like heavy hail and ice. Everything
is damaged! It's like a man in the sea, the ship is destroyed, and he loses his life in the water! ’ The following quotations from various sutras prove the fault of violating the precepts of sexual immorality!
(1) The Nirvana Sutra says: If a bhikkhu, even though he does not care about women and laughs at him, hears the sound of bangles outside the wall, it is a violation of the pure precepts and an insult to the holy life!
(2) The Vairaya Sutra: There are five things that a monk should not do. Why are they five? Enter the house of an adulterer, enter the house of an older virgin, enter the house of a misbehaving widow, enter the house of an alcoholic. A monk who enters a thief's house commits a serious crime!
(3)
Daji Sutra: There is a blind dragon writing, the mouth is crimson and rotten, full of various insects, the shape is like feces and urine, all kinds of food are eaten, and pus and blood flow out! The body is bitten by poisonous flies, the Buddha shows compassion! I feel sorry for the blind dragon and ask, why did my sister become so evil? The dragon girl replied: I am suffering in this body
! There will be no temporary pause, because I have been a bhikshuni in the Dharma of Bisasasi in the past kalpa, thinking about lustful things, and committing non-Brahma practices in Jialan! ...The Buddha took out water with his hand and sprinkled it on the Dragon Girl's body. All the odors and evils were removed, and her eyes became clear and clear. The Dragon Girl asked the Buddha to receive the Three Refuges, and the Buddha
with compassion, granted her the Three Refuges.
(4) Surangama Sutra: Bhikshuni Baolianxiang, who upholds the Bodhisattva precepts, engages in sexual desires privately, speaks falsely and engages in adultery, neither killing nor stealing, has no karmic retribution, has spoken these words, and precedes the female root. (The female vagina) generates a big and fierce fire, and then it burns with fierce fire, falling into the endless hell!
(5)
According to the Miscellaneous Treasure Sutra, Nanda’s reasons for becoming a monk: Nanda was the Buddha’s lay brother, and he loved Chisundhara the most. One day the Buddha came to him for alms. Begging for food at my brother's house. When Nanda saw the Buddha coming, he gave him vegetables and rice. Little did he know that the Buddha used his supernatural power to prevent him from catching up.
As far as the Gion Vihara, the Buddha shaved him off and became a monk. But he thought Nian Yu wanted to go home. One day the Buddha took him to heaven and saw that the goddess was very good. He kept the precepts and wanted to be reborn in heaven. The Buddha was led into hell again and saw the oil pot hell. The jailer said that he was waiting for Nanda to come! From then on, he returned to practice and achieved fruition.
(6) The Eight Masters Sutra: The Buddha told Brahma: Anyone who violates the precepts and commits adultery with a woman, or is arrested and punished by the king's law, will be responsible for the crime! Die in hell, lying on an iron bed! Or if you hold a copper pillar, your sins in hell will be over, and you will receive the realm of animals.
(7) Daposha’s Commentary: In the past there was King Gandayana. The maids of the palace were led to swim in the mountains, burned incense, played five kinds of music, and danced naked for sexual pleasure. Many immortals came up with magical powers! Whether he sees a color, hears a sound, smells a fragrance, or has a sudden desire, he loses his supernatural powers and falls down. When the king hated him for spying and offending him, he cut off his limbs!
(8) The Sutra of Good Precepts of Bodhisattvas: Even if Candra and others, as well as Tu'er, perform bad deeds, they will not destroy the Tathagata's righteous Dharma, and they will not necessarily fall into the three evil paths. If a teacher cannot teach his disciples, If you are ordered to abide by the forbidden precepts, you will break the Buddha's teachings and you will fall into hell!
(9) The Sutra of Righteous Dharma Mindfulness: If a person practices evil and is not good at observing, he commits illegal adultery, or he may be in a trap! Perhaps due to bad karma, you will end up in hell and suffer great suffering! There are often ferocious ants, which chew meat and drink blood! Eat its five internal organs, and the food has been reborn. After countless years, it is often cooked! . After his sinful karma has been exhausted, he is born into a human being; he is poor and lowly, and suffers the remaining consequences.
(10) Law of Good Views: All those who do evil and violate the precepts are not known to anyone. The first author saw it, and then the God who protects the body saw it, and then the other gods knew it, and then passed it on to Brahma and the Formless Realm. Heaven, everyone hears it! Therefore, if there are those who violate the precepts in the world, all heavens will know about them.
A wise person would rather abide by the precepts and die than break them and live!
(11) The Sexual Precepts of the Vatican Compendium Sutra says: If a Buddha commits adultery himself or teaches others to commit adultery, then all women must not engage in adultery, causes, conditions, laws, deeds, and even Women of beasts, women of gods, ghosts and gods, and those who engage in unethical prostitution! A Bodhisattva should have a heart of filial piety, save all sentient beings, and purify the Dharma for people. Instead, he causes all people to commit adultery, does not choose animals, and even causes mothers, daughters, and sisters to commit adultery without compassion. It’s Bodhisattva Parayi’s crime!
The above briefly quotes eleven kinds of scriptures, which clearly shows that violating the precept of sexual misconduct is extremely sinful! Others, such as the Five Uninterrupted Karmas of the Ksitigarbha Sutra, say: "You will indulge in lustful desires in the Jialan," and it also says: "If you encounter a sexually immoral person, you will be punished by doves, birds, and mandarin ducks!"
2. The mistake of committing the precept of killing
The mistake of committing the precept of killing
The mistake of committing the precept of killing is the biggest sin in the Mahayana bodhisattva treasure! Cutting off the root of Bodhi and cutting off the seed of compassion is a sin even worse than greed! Love between a man and a woman can be taught, but only those who are angry and separated from their emotions. The Dabaoji Sutra says: 'Because of greed, one violates the precepts, and still
takes all living beings; because of anger, one violates the precepts, and abandons all living beings! ’ Kill those who are ‘able to kill’. It connects to the seven groups: bhikshus, bhikkhunis, Shishamanas, novices and novices, and Upasaka Upasikas. The sentient beings 'killed' - those who have access to the ten dharma realms, the six realms of the world
men, gods, humans, Asuras, hell ghosts and animals, the four saints beyond the world, the Sravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Buddhas.
Instruments for killing in the middle - knives, staffs, bows and arrows, spears, axes, guns, cannons, airplanes, gold, silver, copper, iron, tin, stone, jade, lottery, numbers, evil nets, Barriers, hand and foot kicks, water and fire, etc., these things can all be used as tools for killing.
In the Brahma Net Bodhisattva Precepts Sutra, there are ten kinds of killing, which are listed as follows:
1. Suicide-there are two personal intentions: 1. Killing yourself, like throwing a rock. Fire, hanging beam sinking into water, poison, knife stabbing, etc.! 2. Use your own hands to get a killing weapon and kill lives.
2. Teach him how to kill - ask someone to teach you how to kill living beings, such as cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs, etc.
3. Convenient killing - using many clever methods to end this life.
4. Praise for killing - when you see others killing, it is good to praise them.
5. Kill as you like - be happy when you see people killing (such as splitting a turtle, hugging an eel, etc.).
6. Curses to kill - chanting and holding various evil curses will cause demons and ghosts to harm and kill others.
7. Cause of murder - we have murderous intention at the moment we think about it! This is called causation.
8. The fate of killing - only with the help of many killings can this life root be cut off.
9. Killing method - There are methods for killing animals, such as killing cattle and sheep.
10. Killing karma. It is the industry of killing animals. If it is successful, it is called killing industry.
I
As I said before: 'The beings you kill have access to the ten dharma realms.' If you harm Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, kill Arhats, break up the Sangha, kill your father and harm your mother, you will have five human beings. Due to endless karma, I will fall into the Abi Hell and suffer! If you kill people, cows, horses, pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks, fish, turtles, etc.
they will be repaid in the future, or fall into hell. The Surangama Sutra says: 'When a person dies, he becomes a sheep, when a sheep dies, he becomes a human being, and all living beings will continue! ’ means that in this life, you kill him and eat his flesh, and in the next life he will kill you and eat your flesh. The ancients said: ‘If you eat half a catty of him, you will get eight taels in return! ’ For example, if you hit and scold someone now, they will beat and scold you for you. This kind of cause and effect cycle is not bad at all! The following is a brief quotation from the sutra to prove:
(1) The Sutra of Retribution of Hungry Ghosts says: Venerable Maudgalyana, the most powerful among the disciples of Buddha, has the first insight into the six paths of retribution, good and evil.
At that time, there was a ghost by the Heng River who asked the Venerable: My whole body is sore and I am suffering unbearably. What sin is caused by this? The Venerable replied, when you were a human being, you liked to eat meat and kill sentient beings. Now you have received flower retribution, and the consequences are in hell!
(2) Ksitigarbha Sutra: If you encounter a murderer. Talk about disaster and short-lived retribution!
Buddha said: There is a blue Buddha with a depressed head, sharp roots and cleverness, able to subdue worries. He practices meditation in the mountains. He hears the sounds of birds and beasts and becomes restless. As for the aquatic animals in the forest near the water, he interrupts him, and he becomes angry in his heart. : 'All the fish and birds will eventually be killed!' ’ After death, you will live in heaven as you wish. Until the end of your lifespan, you will fall into the animal realm and take on the body of a flying raccoon, eating fish in the water and eating birds in the mountains. Is it not dangerous?
3. The fault of committing the theft precept
All the gold, silver, treasures and other things in the world have their own owners, or they are accumulated through blood and sweat. , or those who come from the mind, have parents and wives to sustain life. We have no merit, so we steal other people's property without spending any money. How can we bear it? If you are cursed by others in this life, you will receive bad retribution in the future and fall into the three paths. . The Ksitigarbha Sutra says, ‘If you encounter a thief, poverty and suffering will be the retribution! ’ If you steal the property of the Three Treasures, your sin will be extremely serious.
(1) The audience's karma and fate say: 'If there are sentient beings who steal permanent property, grain, food, clothing, and even refuse to take a single thing, they will fall into the endless hell for thousands of billions of kalpas. Out of date! ’
(2) The Five Hundred Questions Sutra says: If a disciple of the Buddha fails to recite the precepts for ten summers, he drinks water, eats and drinks, sits down on a mat, and commits theft every day.
(3) The Sutra of Cause and Effect says: In the past, the Venerable Maudgalyayana took Bhikkhu Zengfu into the sea. As he was walking, he saw a big tree with many insects surrounding it. It screamed and shook. Zengfu asked Mulian: This is The tree is a common monk who abuses his permanent residence and eats and drinks flowers and fruits. He pays him white clothes and violates the precepts, so he will receive this retribution! There were many insects that were biting the trees, and many people were eating indiscriminately at the permanent residents at that time.
(4) Mingzhong Ji says: Zhihuan, a monk from the Qing Temple in the Tang Dynasty, sent ten ends of the cloth to Li Yiji, the prime minister of Tianhe Xuan, on the occasion of the New Year. After death, he was reincarnated as a human being, young and poor. He worked as a dung slave in a temple and had the word "wisdom ring" on his back. Since he wanted to die, he was reincarnated and was lonely. He worked as a vegetable slave in a temple with the word "meaning" on his back!
The above is a brief list of several proven faults for stealing precepts. Others include Daozhi of Song Dynasty, Mao Laiyi, etc., too numerous to mention.
4. The fault of lying
‘Lying’ is one of the verbal karma, which means verbal abuse with two tongues! . Now, those who tell lies are fabricating lies and rumors to confuse the public. If they don’t see what they say, they don’t see what they say, they don’t hear what they hear, they don’t hear what they hear, they know what they say but don’t know, and they don’t know what they say and know, etc., this kind of fault will be in this life. People don’t have faith! If you become a king, you will fall into three ways in the future!
(1) The Great Treasure Accumulation Sutra says: Those who lie often have bad breath and enter the path of suffering and resentment. There is no way to save them. You should know that lying is the root of all evils, destroys the pure precepts, and leads to death in the three paths!
(2) The Ksitigarbha Sutra says: If you meet someone who speaks evil words, it is said that the family members will fight each other. If you meet someone who slanders, it is said that there will be no retribution for tongue sores. Report!
The cause and effect of these retributions can be known! Is there another type of people who have not yet achieved success? Those who claim that I am a Buddha or a Bodhisattva without testifying will fall into hell forever, like a good star and an unknown monk.
(3) The Sutra of Retribution for Sins and Blessings says: Those who like to tell lies and spread evil to others will go to hell, have foreign copper poured into their mouths, pull out their tongues, and plow them with oxen! When he was born, he fell among the evil-sounding birds: owl, pigeon, and parrot.
(4) The Buddha said in the Sutra on Precepts and Elimination of Disasters: The Buddha saw an insect in the evil water, which looked like a human. Ananda asked, what kind of karma did this insect create in its previous life to be born in this water? The Buddha said that in the past, the Vena of the monks in the Dharma of the Buddha statues was jealous of the arrival of the visiting monks. He was jealous and hid the ghee that was sent to him without permission. Why do you want to ask for food from me? Therefore, I scold the guest monks and fall into this evil water for countless lifetimes!
Others like in the Sutra of Karma and Destiny, Kapila used to curse people, you are a cow! You are a horse! Pig cat! So make a big fish with a hundred heads. In the past, Junti novices ridiculed the old bhikkhu for singing like a barking dog, pretending to be a dog for five hundred lives. These were all caused by verbal karma! As the saying goes, ‘Misfortune comes from the mouth! Diseases come from the mouth, one word can ruin a country, and one word can make a country prosper. This is how powerful the word industry is!
5. Making the mistake of drinking alcohol
The above
killing, stealing, and committing sexual misconduct are sexual precepts. No matter whether you are a monk at home or a monk, if you violate them, you will have karma.
Only the drinking precept is covered by the Buddha. Why? Because the fault of wine is great! For example, it is said in the Sutra: There was an Upasaka who had received the five precepts. He came back from chopping firewood on the mountain one day and was very thirsty. There was no tea to drink, so I found some wine in the pot on the table, so I drank it. I felt like I was in a coma. Suddenly, a chicken came from my neighbor! He took the chicken and hid it. It was better to kill it than drink it.
At that time, a young woman came looking for the chicken. She said she didn't see it, so he raped the woman and killed the chicken too! Because of drinking, the five precepts were broken one after another. Isn’t this the biggest sin of drinking? The Sutra of Precepts is quoted as follows:
(1) The Sutra of Retribution for Sins and Blessings says: If you like to drink alcohol and commit thirty-six mistakes, you will fall into a plow with boiling excrement and mud; after you are born, you will fall into a gorilla, and you will become a stubborn human being. Nothing is known.
(2) The Brahma Net Sutra ‘Wine Drinking’ precept says: If a Buddhist disciple drinks wine himself, he teaches others how to drink wine, the cause of drinking wine, the fate of drinking wine, and the method of drinking wine! The cause of intoxicating wine is that all wine must not be intoxicated, and it is the cause and condition of sin caused by wine; and the Bodhisattva who should give birth to the wisdom of enlightenment in all living beings, but instead regenerates the perverted mind of all living beings, is the sin of Bodhisattva Parayi.
‘Bāluāī’ is an Indian Sanskrit word, translated into Chinese as “abandonment”, which means that those who violate the fundamental precepts have abandoned the Dharma, and are like the sea, immune to the death of corpses! It also means that if a person is decapitated, he cannot be resurrected.
(3) The Sutra of Precepts says: If you are a disciple of the Buddha, you drink alcohol! And the faults of drinking wine are immeasurable: if one's own hands have passed the wine vessel and others drink from it, he will have no hands in five hundred lifetimes, let alone drink by himself? It is also not allowed to teach anyone to drink, and all living beings to drink. If you drink alcohol yourself, you are not allowed to drink any alcohol. If you drink it yourself, and teach others to drink, you will commit a minor crime.

1.
To summarize the above comparative observations on observing the precepts and violating the precepts, it is roughly like this. If there are subtle gains and losses, if you explore the vinaya, It is difficult to enumerate. According to the Bodhisattva, there are three pure precepts: one is to gather the precepts of rules and regulations, which means that all the rules and regulations are gathered together and no evil is left behind!
‘Don’t do any evil’. The second precept of catching good Dharma means that the actions you perform can catch all the good Dharma! No good will not be taken! Do good deeds. The three precepts of taking in all sentient beings can take in all sentient beings and benefit sentient beings with compassion, joy and equanimity. With these three gatherings, take in everything
Stop.
2.
Opening cover and violating the Buddha's law are not blindly authoritarian and rigid, but are the most adaptable to the social environment, and the premise is to ultimately benefit the masses. In the Mahayana Bodhisattva precepts, there are differences in the offences: killing, stealing, sexual intercourse, drinking, etc., all have the principle of offending the precepts
For example, now the country encourages everyone to work and produce, so A group of monks and nuns can also be self-reliant, working hard in farming, running factories, weaving, etc. This is the principle of opening up karma. Or if you are sick and the doctor says you need to mix wine with medicine, you can also prescribe it.
As for convenient lying, etc., everything that benefits the public must open a predestined relationship, otherwise it will be violated, and if it is covered, it will be maintained.
You can know these principles by reading the book of Yoga Bodhisattva's Precepts in detail and the article "On the Opening of Precepts" written by Master Juzan to Master Ermi. Therefore, the World-Honored One preaches and regulates the precepts; when they are opened, they are opened, and when they are opened, they are known and upheld, and if they are not opened, they violate them! When you cover up, you cover up, and when you cover up, you uphold your name. If you don't cover up, you will commit an offence! All in all, in terms of merit, we must benefit ourselves and others! Only if it is legal and reasonable can the convenience have the meaning of opening a destiny, otherwise it must not be used!
3.
Return to purity after repentance
'Lin studies' such as ten recitations of the Vinaya, five points of Jin, four points of Vinaya, the fundamental theory of Sarvastivada, etc. , so many, and so severe! If you receive the precepts at a young age or do not have any knowledge and study, you will easily break the precepts! Even if one knows this, he would never break the precepts
right? ‘Knowing and committing the crime’ is a more serious crime! In this way, the Buddha is merciful and expedient. Maybe we know that we will always have our faults, and only by being ashamed and repenting can we be pure. As the preface to the precepts says: 'If anyone among the people has sinned, he should repent. Repentance will bring peace and happiness. If you do not repent
The sin becomes more severe. '
The Brahma Net Sutra says: 'If anyone violates the Ten Precepts, he should be taught to repent and recite the Ten Layers and Forty-eight Light Precepts at six o'clock day and night in front of the images of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. It will be so painful as to pay homage to thousands of Buddhas in three generations! To see good signs, if you want to see good signs for seven days, two or three seven days, or even for a year, if you want to see good signs, if you have good signs, the Buddha will come and rub your head, see light and flowers, and all kinds of strange signs, so that the sins will be extinguished... If you commit Forty-eight, those who take the precept lightly will be destroyed if they confess their sins.
'
Repent if you have something to do: Repent of something, that is, be sincere to the three karma in front of the Buddha and Bodhisattva statues, bow to the karma of the body, and recite the karma of the mouth: 'All the evil karma that has been done in the past is due to nothing. Greed, anger, and ignorance arise from body, speech, and mind. All karma must be repented of! ’ If you repent like this every day, you will naturally become clean; just like dirty clothes, they will become clean. The Nirvana Sutra says: "If I have received the precepts, if I have committed any offense, I should repent immediately, and my regrets will be purified." ’
If you want to repent, you need to sit upright and meditate in your mind. The Samantabhadra Sutra says: If you want to repent, sit upright and think about the truth. All sins are like frost and dew, and the sun of wisdom can eliminate them. The Ritual of Life Release says: When sins arise in the mind, repent with the heart. If the mind is extinguished, the sins will also perish. When the mind dies and the sins are extinguished, both will be empty. This is called true repentance. This is called rational confession.
This is the end of my writing. This article is complete. If there are any shortcomings, please ask for help from a great teacher and a lay scholar of virtue! Most welcome.
Finally, for the karma of killing, stealing and sexual intercourse that I have committed in the past, I should repent to all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and Pratyekabuddha voices and hearings of the ten directions, as well as to the great eminent monks of the modern times, so that I will never have any karmic obstacles that can stop me. With this merit, I will All sentient beings can achieve Buddhahood together. This is our wish in writing this article!
A verse from the Avatamsaka Sutra says:
The precepts are the supreme bodhi and one should have enough to uphold the pure precepts
If you can persist in the precepts, you will be praised by the Tathagata
