Master Xing Yun: Don't just see "tangible" wealth.

On the afternoon of 2011April 13, Master Xing Yun, the founder of Foguang Mountain in Taiwan Province Province and the founder of the World Federation of International Buddhist Light Associations, came to Sun Yat-sen University to give a speech to all the teachers and students.

The 85-year-old monk, a well-known social activist and educator, looks not much different from ordinary monks: he is dressed in a robe, with kind eyes and serene expression. Before the lecture, Master Xing Yun and his party held talks with Xu Ningsheng, President of Sun Yat-sen University, and discussed the academic exchanges and student exchanges between the Buddhist education system and CUHK.

Master Xing Yun gave a speech on the topic "How much do you know about the wealth of life". He said that a person's greatest wealth lies in his heart. Only when his heart is good and his destiny is his career can he bear the fruits of wealth. Master Xingyun explained in very popular language: people should not only see "tangible" wealth, but also see "intangible" wealth; We should not only see the wealth of "others" but also the wealth of "me"; We should see not only the present wealth, but also the future wealth. We don't have to own wealth, but we can enjoy it.

What is wealth? "Heart" is a person's greatest wealth.

As soon as Master Xing Yun appeared in the auditorium of Sun Yat-sen University, the audience gave a warm applause.

The 85-year-old man's footsteps have faltered, and he needs crutches and people to help him walk. After taking a seat, Master Xing Yun introduced himself: "I am 85 years old and was born in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, China. He became a monk in Qixia Mountain in Nanjing 73 years ago and never went to school. 2 1 year-old, principal of primary school, Taiwan Province Province for 62 years. 」

Master Xing Yun recalled that he came to CUHK to give a speech in 2006, and the topic at that time was "Prajna and Life". Prajna is actually wealth. At this time, it is easier for ordinary people to understand the wealth of life.

"Everything we see with our eyes is wealth, and everything we hear with our ears is wealth. Our mouths can talk, praise and reason, which is wealth; Our hands can work and serve to create wealth, and our hands are also wealth; Our minds can think, which is also wealth. But our greatest wealth is' heart'. Master Xing Yun said that the heart is like a bank that stores wealth. It is a pure land world with compassion, joy and missing. The heart is as broad as the world and inclusive.

"When it comes to wealth, people should not only look at money, because money is just a kind of wealth. Just like a fist, hitting someone is a crime, but you can thank them for hitting them on the back. We should turn pollution into good wealth and net wealth. 」

How to treat wealth? It is better to enjoy wealth than to have it.

"When it comes to wealth, I think enjoyment is better than possession. You have money, you build buildings and department stores, but I have no money and I can't build them, but I can go shopping. You build a park and I can walk in it; You buy a TV, I can watch it and stand by. The flowers planted by others are in bloom, and we can also enjoy them. You don't have to possess it, but you can enjoy it. " Master Xingyun said.

"Don't take religion as an insurance company. If you want to be healthy, you need to do health care and exercise regularly. If you want to be rich, you can't expect to pray to God and worship Buddha, because God is not a broker. It is inappropriate to pray unnecessarily. Just like a stone sinking into the water, you have to pray that it will float, which is not cause and effect. Master Xing Yun said that having wealth is a blessing, and being able to use it is wisdom.

"Financial management is easy, managing affairs is easy, and managing people is more troublesome. In fact, others just don't listen to us sometimes, and the one who doesn't listen to us the most is ourselves. Master Xing Yun said that learning to manage yourself is wealth.

Wealth and harmony: I'm glad to see others get rich.

"Wealth is public and wealth should be distributed to everyone. Master Xingyun said, I am a monk, and I don't want money without money. But where did hundreds of temples around the world come from? There seems to be a way. " When we run a university and run a newspaper, we make our tasks poor, and only when we are poor will we work hard. 」

"Things in the world can't just look at the present. When I was a little novice monk, my brothers often laughed at me. But I'm not angry. Because people are good, can you decide now? As long as you work hard, you will find a way. 」

Master Xing Yun finally summed up the whole speech in a paragraph: "I hope you will see not only tangible wealth, but also intangible wealth;" We should see the wealth of' others' as well as' me'; We should see not only the present wealth, but also the future wealth. We don't have to have wealth, but we can enjoy it. 」

The student asked the nebula.

Q: In the Heart Sutra, it is said that the sky is not different in color, and the color is not different in space. It is the same to think about it. But what does it mean to say that the sky is colorless?

A: Generally speaking, "empty" means "nothing". But in fact, "empty is there, and there is empty." The teacup is not empty. Where does the water pour? Because it is "empty", it is "there". Our pockets, mouths, ears, intestines and stomach can only be "occupied" if there is space. Vacuum creates everything and color is everything.

One is free, not two. What do you see on my desk? Is it a table? The table is an illusion, but it turned out to be wood. But wood is also an illusion, it should be a big tree. The tree is still an illusion. It turned out to be a seed. Seeds are also false. Their true nature is soil, sunlight, air and water, which are combined with the power of the universe. More than one, more is one, more than one, different sizes.

Q: Some people live a very self-centered life, ignoring current events and living a leisurely life like a wild crane in the clouds. Some people care about society, but they feel particularly tired. How should we treat these two attitudes towards life?

A: The heat flow of the sun warms and illuminates everyone, but the brilliance of the sun has not decreased. People are busy, but they are not. There is no gain or loss, and there is no fame and fortune. People have a sense of mission and should do their best. I care about society, I don't feel hard, I don't regret it, I don't feel depressed. If the world is like sludge, you should encourage yourself to be like a lotus, and don't complain.

For the country, for the nation and for our compatriots, we must have no heart, no will and no strength. We should do our best. The so-called "having fun alone" is not as good as having fun with others. People should have the way of Bodhisattva, the heart of Bodhisattva, and the will to abandon others. They would rather sacrifice their dedication, enjoy the sacrifice and enjoy the sacrifice.
