This view (modern calligraphy can hardly surpass ancient calligraphers) is a reality. There are four main reasons.
1, the imperial examination system is the guarantee of calligraphy. In ancient times, from the Han Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty, it became a tough policy of the country, namely? Book selection officer? . The calligraphy level is high, and the writing style is good for officials. So in the past, almost all officials wrote well. Of course, their level is not uniform, but they are all proficient in calligraphy.
As a way of being an official, it greatly stimulated people's efforts in calligraphy. In the exam, if the handwriting on the test paper is particularly poor, it is likely to be excluded. Therefore, with the guarantee of the imperial examination system, calligraphy will prosper forever! In modern times, although there were a large number of calligraphers and calligraphers, most of them could not get good positions and economic benefits because of their good handwriting. Calligraphy is just a personal hobby. There are only a few calligraphy masters who regard calligraphy as their profession and means of livelihood.
2. The ever-changing Chinese characters, the formation of various calligraphy styles, and the process of expressing the meaning and expression of Chinese characters can all become calligraphy. Since modern times, the forms of Chinese characters have changed to some extent. After liberation, simplified Chinese characters became popular. But the promotion of simplified Chinese characters is not conducive to the promotion of Chinese characters. Although simplified characters have the characteristics of convenient and fast writing, the research on calligraphy is hindered.
There are fewer strokes in modern Chinese characters, but calligraphy needs to be changed. It is necessary to reflect the rise and fall of calligraphy through complex structures, or to refer to it through the comparison of complex and simple structures. When there are only a few strokes of Chinese characters, it is very monotonous. In addition, in the process of determining simplified characters, calligraphy is at its lowest point, and there is no calligrapher's participation, so the factors of calligraphy are not considered.
3. Calligraphy is closely related to classical Chinese. Although in modern times, the content of most calligraphy works is still classical Chinese. Because the rhythm and melody of classical Chinese are very beautiful, words and characters will be very harmonious. The disappearance of classical Chinese is also very unfavorable to the study of calligraphy.
4. After the brush quits the historical stage, the main tool for writing characters should be hard pen, which will bring great losses to calligraphy. The ancients wrote with a brush every day, but today they only use a brush to practice writing.
Based on the above four points, it is almost impossible for modern people's calligraphy to surpass the ancients! However, as a part of China culture, calligraphy has been integrated into the blood of China people. As long as Chinese characters exist, calligraphy will continue to spread. As the saying goes? Chinese characters are immortal and calligraphy is evergreen? !
