Mohai Library was established
In the 23rd year of Daoguang reign (1843), British missionary John Medus established the printing institution in Batavia (now Jakarta) Moved to Shanghai, which had just opened, and established Mohai Library. It was the first compilation and publishing institution established for foreigners in China, and introduced modern Western printing machines and printing technology to China for the first time. The museum was first hosted by Medus and later succeeded by William Ali. It existed for about twenty years. At first, it only printed the Bible and some pamphlets promoting Christian doctrine. Thirty years after Daoguang, in order to expand the influence of the church in China, it also translated and published some Western scientific and technological works. From the second year of Xianfeng (1852) to the ninth year of Xianfeng, *** translated and printed nine kinds of science and technology books. Its printing machine once used an ox to rotate the wheel axle, so people at that time had a poem that said: "The cart turns over the sea of ??ink and the wheel turns round, and hundreds of strange stories are compiled in the universe. Wu Rongguang passed away
Wu Rongguang (1773-1843) was a native of Nanhai, Guangdong. Excellent appreciation of gold and stone. Gongshu, written by Ouyang Xun, involved in Su Shi's brushwork. Good at regular script and running script.
The death of Mei Zhi
Mei Zhi (1794-1843) was a native of Jiangdu (now Yangzhou, Jiangsu). In the 19th year of Daoguang's reign (1839), he was elected. The calligraphy is ups and downs and beautiful, and the old rubbings are forged and refined. You can see the injection of blood and the gathering of essence, making it rush to the fingers and wrists. Together with Wu Xizai, he inherited the method from the left side of Changjiang River, and the result was extremely deep and mellow. He died at the age of fifty.
