What was the bamboo carving like in Jiading period?

In Jiading period, bamboo carving was well-known for its exquisite skills. Qin yijue, Shen Hanchuan, Shen Yuchuan and Shen Jian are all famous bamboo carving masters who studied under Zhu. Famous contemporary bamboo carving artists with the Jiading School initiated by Zhu Zusun and the Jinling School initiated by Li Yao and Pu Zhongqian in Nanjing.

At that time, the fan-making industry in Nanjing was very developed. There are many folding fan workshops and shops outside Tongji Gate, Sanshan Street and Silk Gallery. The ribs of folding fans are usually made of old brown bamboo, feixiang bamboo and cherry red bamboo, and the side bones are engraved with calligraphy and painting, which is very beautiful. Li Yao was one of the outstanding sculptors in Nanjing at that time. Pu Zhongqian, another famous bamboo carving artist in Jinling, is a legendary bamboo carving artist.

Two "Zhong You" bamboo folding fans were found in the tomb of Hebei Province, and calligraphy and painting were engraved on the side bones by shallow engraving. The picture is engraved with plum blossoms, orchids and daffodils, and calligraphy is a running poem. Another donated Zhong You's bamboo pen container, carved a plum blossom by lettering, and wrote the word "Nanxiangzi" in parallel. The carving technique is similar to the folding fan mentioned above.

In addition, there is a "Zhong You" version of "Bamboo Carved Pine Pot". The pot takes loose stems as the body, flat branches as the handle, and broken stems as the flow. Mushroom-shaped pine needles are carefully carved on the pot by round carving and through carving, which is extremely fine and wonderful. The purple sand of the pot body is simple and exquisite, and it is the best of bamboo carving.
