Yuan Weimin was born in 1939. At the age of 24, he was selected to the national team of China Men's Volleyball Team, wearing a national team shirt, winning glory for his country.
At the age of 35, Yuan Weimin chose to retire. Later, he became the head coach of the national women's volleyball team in China and began to take charge of the women's volleyball team in China. After Yuan Weimin came to China Women's Volleyball Team, he began to pay attention to the players' skills, emphasized the style of play, and told women's volleyball players to dare to play and not be afraid of losing. In this way, after Yuan Weimin made a self-innovation for the China women's volleyball team, the China women's volleyball team quietly changed without interest, and this women's volleyball team suddenly became an iron army in the women's volleyball team.
Under the leadership of Yuan Weimin, China women's volleyball team won the 23rd Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The champion of the 9th World Women's Volleyball Championship in Peru and the 3rd Japanese Women's Volleyball Championship won the team's three consecutive championships, while in the eight years from 1976 to 1984, the women's volleyball team in China won 223 games and lost only 27 games. With this excellent result, China women's volleyball team completely ruled the world for an era.
Subsequently, Yuan Weimin stepped down from the position of head coach of China women's volleyball team and entered the official career, successively serving as president of China Football Association, vice-president of Chinese Olympic Committee, president of Asian Volleyball Federation, director of State Sports General Administration and president of Chinese Olympic Committee. During this period, Yuan Weimin made an indelible contribution to the development of sports in China.
