At the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, China athletes showed the spirit and competitive level of the new era in an all-round way with excellent performance, and vividly interpreted the Olympic spirit and China sports spirit. The Olympic Games is not only a competitive stage for strength competition, but also an excellent platform for telling the story of China. In major sports events, the wonderful moments of challenging the limit and surpassing oneself show the wisdom and shocking scenes, which are transformed into eternal images in artists' works, fully demonstrating the strength and beauty, speed and passion of competitive sports.

Vividly Interpreting China's Sports Spirit

The brilliant achievements of competitive sports in China have continuously promoted the prosperity and development of sports art.

China Sports Art Exhibition has been successfully held for 9 times. Since 1997, the exhibition has become an art activity held regularly during the National Games. Such a large-scale art exhibition has a single theme, a long duration, a large number of participants and a large number of works, which is really rare and has become a vivid witness to the development of sports in China. Nowadays, more and more artists consciously participate in the artistic creation of competitive sports themes. During the Beijing Winter Olympics and the 20021Tokyo Olympic Games, artists from China National Painting Academy and other art institutions formed an artistic sketch troupe to cheer for the Olympic Games. In the form of Chinese painting and sketching, Gu Ailing's amazing jump, butterfly dancing on the ice and the wonderful moments of China athletes' hard work are drawn into a set of scrolls, which attract people's attention. Sports art exhibitions at all levels all over the country are one after another. For example, in order to welcome the Beijing Winter Olympics, the Propaganda Department of the Heilongjiang Provincial Party Committee and the Heilongjiang Provincial Sports Bureau held an invitation exhibition of outstanding art calligraphy works in Heilongjiang Province, "Ice and Snow for the Winter Olympics", among which a number of art works showing athletes' courage to compete for the first place were impressive.

For decades, generations of artists have focused on sports events, actively created and produced excellent works. Many classic works are collected by important domestic art institutions and often exhibited at home and abroad. For example, Xu Qixiong's Chinese painting "Before the Final Battle" fixed the moment when women volleyball girls joined hands to cheer before the final, and the warm red tone set off high fighting spirit and confidence to win; Tian Jinduo's sculpture "Going to the World" shapes the light and confident race walking gait of China girls with three-dimensional modeling and universal techniques. Zhu Cheng's sculpture "Thousand Arrows" highlights the athletes' concentration and sense of strength with simple imagery, which is novel and unique. Li Xiangqun's sculpture "Eternal Operation", the moment when the discus thrower is about to make a move, is full of movement ... These works all show the athletes' fighting spirit and the unique charm of competitive sports in a unique artistic form, interpret the sports spirit of China, become a precious memory of an era, and form a new paradigm of sports art creation.

The artistic expression of sports art not only provides spiritual strength for the construction of healthy China, but also plays an important role in telling the story of China, spreading the voice of China, expounding the spirit of China and showing the elegant demeanor of China.

Innovative display of China sports forge ahead.

Both sports and fine arts have distinct characteristics of the times. At present, the artistic creation of competitive sports theme not only reproduces the spiritual outlook of China athletes in the new period, but also extends to the fields of design, architecture and so on in addition to painting and sculpture creation, and the aesthetic expression forms are constantly enriched.

After watching sports events, artists often feel something and artistically refine the wonderful moments on the field. Whether describing the highlights of winning the championship or the sportsmanship, artists have portrayed the enterprising attitude of China athletes in an aesthetic form full of modernity. This is clearly reflected in the theme art creation of Beijing Winter Olympics. In the "Light of Life 2022 9th China Beijing International Art Biennale" and "Harmony between Heaven and Earth —— Calligraphy Exhibition of Theme Art of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics by China National Academy of Painting", a number of new works on competitive sports have become highlights. For example, Gao Yi, Huang Huasan's Chinese painting "Dancing Snow on the Peak" and Yu Wenjiang's Chinese painting "The Fast and the Furious" all express their passion for ice and snow sports under a simple background through the instantaneous close-up of athletes challenging the limit.

At present, sports art has more artistic carriers. In public art, sportswear, product design, animation games and other fields, sports art patterns emerge one after another. For example, the public art "The Speed of Light" created by Viann and Ma Jun combines the speed of speed skating in the Winter Olympics, the beauty of ice and snow, and the danger of corners; As one of the important visual image elements of the Olympic Games, the sports icons of the Beijing Winter Olympics and the Winter Paralympics, inspired by China Chinese characters, skillfully combine winter sports with China traditional culture in the form of seal cutting, and transform them into images with great sports tension, supplemented by dynamic deduction, vividly interpreting the Olympic motto of "Faster, Higher, Stronger—More United" and showing the beauty of China traditional culture.

Sports art has a strong publicity, and many works are changing from traditional artistic shelves and static forms to online communication and dynamic interpretation to meet the aesthetic needs of more audiences. The characteristics of sports art serving the society are increasingly prominent.

Great power to unite for the future.

How to better carry forward the Olympic spirit and China sports spirit in the form of art? How to better show the credible, lovely and respectable image of China to the world in the form of art? How to better display China's aesthetic purport and spread the values of contemporary China in the form of art? These are the breakthrough points for the inheritance and innovation of artistic creation of competitive sports themes.

Competitive sports is a symphony of strength and beauty. It embodies the comprehensive application of traditional and modern, rational and perceptual factors on athletes, such as the best spatial position, the most appropriate energy arrangement, the cleverest strategy and tactics, the most tenacious will and perseverance. The beauty of competitive sports can be seen. The artistic creation of competitive sports theme is to fully integrate the "beauty" of art-orderly rhythm, emotional climax, visual impact and appeal with the "beauty" of competitive sports, so that it can go beyond the simple visual aesthetic feeling and reach the spiritual world. Shi Kun's Chinese painting "Inflammation of Snow and Ice" depicts the burning Chinese power in the snow and ice. The work combines five ice and snow sports scenes, depicts them in a meticulous and colorful way, and properly uses the traditional hook-up technique. Through the clever collocation of red and gold powder, it strengthens the beauty of ice and snow sports and the youthful enthusiasm on the field.

This kind of beauty collision is not to piece together the beauty of science and technology, the beauty of wisdom, the beauty of human body and the beauty of life, but to find the point of convergence between them and integrate, transform and sublimate them. Sports art is not a sports map. Highlighting the dual charm of sports and art is the development direction of competitive sports art creation. Only when the picture is solidified by the eternal fighting spirit of life from different times and different scenes can the classic be achieved. Just like Yu Chang's sculpture "Challenge", it depicts an athlete with no legs sitting in a wheelchair and struggling to throw discus. With Fiona Fang's figure and exaggerated momentum, the author created a sense of tension and strong shock in the competition.
