Brief Introduction of Olympic Sports Icons

The emblem of the 28 Beijing Olympic Games combines China's seal and calligraphy, which have a history of more than 5, years, with the characteristics of sports, and subtly transforms it into a human figure running forward and welcoming victory. This emblem, called "Chinese Seal Dancing Beijing", combines Chinese seal, Chinese characters and the five-ring emblem, expressing the beautiful vision of 1.3 billion people in China for the Olympic Movement and the enthusiasm and sincerity of welcoming guests from all directions.

On the occasion of the second anniversary of the countdown to the Beijing 28 Olympic Games, BOCOG released 35 sports icons for the Beijing 28 Olympic Games.

The Olympic sports icon is one of the basic image elements of the Olympic Games, which is widely used in the road indication system of the Olympic Games, the marking and decoration inside and outside the venues, and the guide for athletes and spectators to participate in and watch the games. At the same time, it will also be used in Olympic TV broadcast, advertising, market development and other fields to enrich people's Olympic experience. Olympic sports icon is an important basic image element that constitutes the landscape of an Olympic Games. It not only has strong functionality, but also is an important carrier to convey the concept of hosting the Olympic Games and the culture of the host country. The sports icon of Beijing 28 Olympic Games is based on the strokes of seal characters, which combines the pictographic interest of ancient China characters such as Oracle Bone Inscriptions and bronze inscriptions with the simplified features of modern graphics, and meets the requirements of easy identification, easy memory and easy use of sports icons. The clever use of strong black-and-white contrast effect makes the sports icons of Beijing Olympic Games show distinctive sports characteristics, elegant sports aesthetic feeling and rich cultural connotation, and achieve the harmony and unity of "form" and "meaning".

The sports icon design of Beijing Olympic Games includes 35 icons, namely, track and field, rowing, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, canoeing (still water), canoeing (whitewater), cycling, equestrian, fencing, football, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, weightlifting, handball, hockey, judo, wrestling, swimming and synchronized swimming. In March 25, BOCOG started the research, creation and evaluation of Olympic sports icons, invited famous design institutions and design colleges in China to participate in the design and development of sports icons, and the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Tsinghua University Academy of Fine Arts jointly set up a design modification team to modify and improve the selected scheme. During this period, many domestic and foreign design experts, artists, Olympic experts, Olympic TV broadcasters, including athletes' representatives, participated in the revision work and put forward valuable opinions and suggestions. In December, 25, the Executive Committee of BOCOG officially approved the design scheme of "Beauty of Seal Characters" as the sports icon of Beijing Olympic Games, and submitted it to the IFs for review. By the end of April, 26, all 28 IFs had approved the sports icon design scheme of Beijing Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee officially approved the sports icon of the Beijing Olympic Games in June 26.
