Which should I start with when I am a beginner in calligraphy, Yan Liu Ou Zhao?

Beginners of calligraphy usually start with regular script practice. The classic regular script has European, Yan, Liu and Zhao Si fonts. How to choose this? Generally speaking, European style is recommended.

At first, I practiced Liu's body by myself; Now, why should we recommend European sports to others? This is mainly because Ou Feng writes more. The so-called "writing" means that the process of writing is closer to daily writing.

Maybe someone will ask: Is Zhao Ti's writing not strong? Indeed, Zhao Ti's writing style is very strong, even stronger than the European style. But Zhao Ti is a running script, close to the running script. His pen is very fast, and it is difficult to master it without certain basic skills. So Zhao Ti is not suitable for beginners.

Let's compare the writing of some strokes in Yan style and European style. Such as horizontal painting. When the Yan body needs to write, the hidden front returns to the front, and when the pen is closed, it arches back to the front. However, when you start writing, you don't have to go back to the front, just enter the pen directly, and it is easier to collect the pen. You just need a light meal and some exercise to get back to the front.

Another example is the vertical folding hook, which also needs to hide the front and return to the front to start writing, and also needs to return to the front to pick up the pen. However, European body movements are much simpler. When writing directly, especially when collecting the pen, you only need to pick out the trend and don't need to make other actions.

What does this mean? First of all, the difficulty coefficient of brushwork is higher than that of European style. Nowadays, children have a heavy academic burden, so it is impossible to spend too much time practicing calligraphy. Complex brushwork will reduce the efficiency of practicing calligraphy and make children feel afraid of difficulties.

More importantly, those complicated techniques do not conform to daily writing habits. Children can't write homework like that, and those skills will even become obstacles to writing running scripts in the future. However, this problem does not exist in the European style at all. Whether writing a running script or writing with a hard pen, you can start and close the pen as naturally as European style.
