Lao Li has the same surname as Li Shimin, a great international leader in the Tang Dynasty. From an early age, he often listened to the stories of Li Shimin told by his elders, especially The Romance of Sui and Tang Dynasties. Practice calligraphy after school, and go to Jinci to observe and learn Taizong's calligraphy when studying archaeology. I have always respected it.
After graduation, I went to Shaanxi for a study visit in 1990s, and also visited Jiuzhang Mountain in Xia Yan Town, Liquan County, Xianyang City.
Because of my work and study of calligraphy, I am constantly learning the preface of Tang Sanzang's copybook.
More scholars or calligraphers talk about the preface to the holy teachings from the perspective of calligraphy. Lao Li tried to share his views with you from the perspective of a feudal emperor.
During the reign of Emperor Li Shimin of the Tang Dynasty, the Tang Dynasty enjoyed political stability, strong military equipment, prosperous art, prosperous writing style, developed economy and harmonious ethnic relations. Chang 'an has become an international metropolis. At this time, the prosperous Tang empire was called the rule of Zhenguan by later historians. Li Shimin was not only the emperor of the Tang Dynasty, but also the Tiankhan of all ethnic groups in the border areas of the Tang Dynasty. He was a famous leader with real international influence at that time. No wonder Ouyang Xiu in Song Dynasty praised Li Shimin for "having both merits and virtues since ancient times, but not since Han Dynasty" in the Book of New Tang Dynasty.
In fact, Li Shimin is not only superb in national governance, but also has made remarkable achievements in cultural construction and literary and artistic creation. It should be said that none of the feudal emperors in China was second to none.
Not only was Tang Taizong's calligraphy unique, but his poems and essays also had a prominent position in the Tang Dynasty, where poets came forth in large numbers. In Li Shimin's prose, Preface to Tang Sanzang is a famous masterpiece. This article is a preface written by Emperor Taizong for Master Xuanzang's translation and collation of Buddhist scriptures. Not to mention his calligraphy, the beauty of literature and Li Shimin's mind are enough to make people admire him.
Emperor Taizong himself was intelligent and had a deep understanding of Buddhism. For example, in the preface to the holy teachings, Buddhism is praised, saying that "the spiritual power is supreme, and the divine power is not reduced. The great one is in the universe, and the fine one is in the slightest." No life is immortal, and thousands of robberies are not ancient. If it is looming, it will be blessed and will last forever. . . "
Praise Master Xuanzang for his sincerity and tenacity in learning from the scriptures. . . Traveling to the western regions and embarking on a dangerous journey, the staff are lonely. Flying snow in the morning, losing ground on the way, shocking sand and rising in the evening, fascinated by the sky, mountains and rivers in Wan Li, moving in the shadow; Hundreds of cold and heat, crawling frost and rain. . . "Can only say that this preface is written very seriously; From the literary point of view, it is also quite beautiful and colorful, which is beyond the reach of ordinary prose; The pen is smooth, such as flowing water; The antithesis is neat, and the golden sound is like jade. The beauty of parallel prose is comparable to Wang Boteng's preface in terms of beauty and rhythm. At the same time, it is very visual. We seem to see Master Xuanzang trudging through the vast sea and mountains with his staff. From his posture, we can also feel Xuanzang's indomitable will.
It should be said that words are the expression of ideas. The reason why Emperor Taizong can write such a preface that has been passed down through the ages lies not only in his literary attainments, but also in the fact that Li Shimin was not a Buddhist. However, from the king's point of view, he is very aware of the benefits of Buddhism and cultural exchanges and the consolidation of political power. Therefore, he not only gladly prefaced Master Sanzang, but also won eternal praise for his beauty.
After Li Shimin wrote the Preface to the Holy Teaching, Master Xuanzang also expressed his gratitude to the emperor, and Li Shimin personally replied. . . Lest you defile calligraphy with golden slips, mark gravel and pearl forest. . . "It can be said that it is extraordinary to shoot at will.
First praise Emperor Taizong for coming here, don't write too long, lest you spend too much time reading, and end this essay with a modern thing:
A few years ago, my daughter watched the Korean drama Daejang Geum and asked her father: What does Daejang Geum mean? It happened that I was studying the order of the holy religion and told my children that constant progress literally means that every day is new. The use of these two words together in Chinese should be the creation of Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong, who wrote the sentence "Today's longevity is long". Chang Jin's storytelling time is probably equivalent to the Ming Dynasty in China; Chinese was also used in North China at that time, and the influence of Korean culture was natural, so the name Xu Changjin should come from the vocabulary of Emperor Taizong. I don't know if Lao Li is ignorant, please correct me if there are any omissions.
