Straw painting (also known as straw painting) originated from the people. Wheat has always been regarded as a sacred thing, whether it is the sacrifice of the ancients to heaven and earth or the selection of the national micro-pattern, it has given wheat a very high status, which symbolizes harvest and wealth. According to legend, in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Liu Xiu, Emperor Guangwu of Han Dynasty, was hunted down by Wang Mang, so he was helpless and hid in wheat straw, which immediately turned into a forest to protect Liu Xiu.
The wheat straw painting in Runan, Henan Province, which was created by farmers, evolved from the farmer painting in Wangqiao County. The original Wangqiao Commune is now called Luodian Township, which is the "hometown of Chinese folk art". The peasant paintings here have a long history. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, folk crafts such as painting, calligraphy, paper-cutting and clay sculpture were very popular. In the 197s, Wangqiao Commune established the first peasant painting academy in the province-Wangqiao Peasant Painting Academy. More than 1,2 people participated in the study and training of peasant paintings, and more than 4 peasant painters emerged. After the reform and opening up, their desire to be rich and to think about literature has become stronger. In 1993, a group of peasant painters, represented by Yuan Baohua, developed a folk craft treasure-wheat straw painting, which became an extension and development of peasant painting, comparable to Bian embroidery and Su embroidery, and was praised as "a unique folk art in China".
