Is it better to learn calligraphy or painting? Which way is better to learn?

I study calligraphy, and I don’t admit that I can write well.

Although my grandfather has been studying calligraphy for more than 30 years, he does not admit that he is a "calligrapher".

In today's society, the so-called innovation of calligraphy and modern regular script and ugly calligraphy are rampant. To bring things right, calligraphy should not be based on ugly calligraphy. The strange thing is innovation.

To be honest, for ordinary young people, 30 years is not enough.

Unless you have been writing calligraphy since you were very young, you will be very good at it when you are a teenager.

The artistic level of calligraphy is too high, and ordinary people cannot reach the level of calligraphers in ancient times. I can do calligraphy and painting well, and I will start a family in a few years.

In today’s society: How many calligraphers like Qi Gong are there?

It may be helpful to listen to my answer:

1. Be open-minded, and there is no impetuousness in calligraphy.

2. Be persistent.

As for who you learned from, and as to what level you want to surpass him, you have to know it in your mind.

Even if you become your master, it is just a disciple. What kind of people are there in today’s society: Su Shi, Mi Fu, Huang Tingjian and the like?

This question remains my personal opinion.

Maybe you will benefit from reading my answer, maybe you will not understand it until a few years later.

Supplement: "Really!" Learning calligraphy and painting is like building a small house;

Calligraphy is like building a building, the higher it gets, the more difficult it is, especially the commonly used calligraphy. There are too many rules here. Everyone wants to be outstanding in handwriting, unless they are extraordinary geniuses (they have been taught by professional teachers since they were young, and they do not follow the ordinary path, like Wang Xizhi, who was taught by Mrs. Xiang)

And now Calligraphers spend money to join the calligraphy association, and the calligraphy they write is just like flying and phoenix dancing (just use the pen to scratch the paper casually, others can't understand it and think you are superior).

It can be seen from the words whether a person is impetuous or not.

You should have hope in learning calligraphy and painting. You can start a family in a few years, and you will be proficient in 10 years. You have to be open-minded.

Words are written by everyone, and paintings are expressions of emotion.

If you want good handwriting and want to be more detailed, take a photo of your handwriting and send it to me, and I will tell you. (In general, it’s not necessary. I’ve read too many people’s words. What I want to say most is: there are too many impetuous people.)

Reference: Be open-minded.
