Liu Gongquan, one of the four masters of regular script in the history of China, together with Yan Zhenqing, is known as the willow bone of "Yan Gu" by the world. His regular script is vigorous and powerful, with three characteristics: square, fine and hard font and rigorous structure.
Liu Ti mainly uses Fang Bi as a pen, and also uses a round pen. Fang Bi took the official meaning more, and the round pen took the seal meaning more. His calligraphy is called "Six Valleys" because of its prominent edges and strong brushwork, which attracted Fang Bi.
In his works, the brush strokes are even, hard and thin, with exposed edges and corners, rich in variety and avoiding monotonous repetition. The structure is vigorous, the words are rigorous and meticulous, stable but not vulgar, old but not withered, moist but not fat.
Liu Gongquan's "Six Valleys" is characterized by rounded strokes. The representative strokes are horizontal, left and right. The horizontal strokes are mostly round, with strong bones, clear head and tail, short and thick, long and slender, and delicate spirit. Sharp pen, take advantage of Fang Bi, clean with a pen; The painting is heavy, the foot is long and the tail is thin.
Level. Start the pen neatly, fold the front, recycle the pen, and hide the front in the painting. There are long sides and short sides, and the middle part of the long side is thinner and slightly inclined to the right, which is mostly used as the main pen; Short and strong, mostly supine. Skim. Slightly shorter, more strokes, delicate strokes, thin and round tail, smaller radian, with Fang Bi taking the lead and using the pen cleanly.
Sip. Facing the pen, the brush strokes are heavy, the brush strokes are gradually increasing, and the whole is calm and vigorous. The long stroke is slightly curved, the foot is long and the tail is thin. When the left and right intersect, the left is light and the right is heavy, which forms a sharp contrast.
