Why study calligraphy?

I remember Toby Lin, an ink painter, once wrote in his own article.

Being unable to concentrate is the trouble of every contemporary. We are no longer used to boredom, and all the time gaps are filled with all kinds of screen time. Everyone said they were busy, but they didn't do anything decent after a round, and the day passed like this. Think about it. When was the last time you were alone? Haven't you settled down to face your true self for a long time? When it comes to meditation and concentration, we should learn from the ancients. They don't have such good living conditions, so many conveniences, no telephone, no plane, no TV, no Internet ... so it's easier to concentrate on betting. In ancient times, the training of concentration has been running through every skill and kung fu, such as calligraphy. ?

Practicing calligraphy can make our hearts indifferent and quiet, make us physically and mentally healthy, make us better ourselves and find more possibilities in life.

So if you still can't calm down and stay focused, you can try practicing calligraphy!

So if we want to learn brush calligraphy, how should we start?

Self-study is not recommended. If you teach yourself, you will never know whether your writing is good or not. Over time, you will lose interest. It is best to find a good teacher, determine an entry style, prepare copybooks, pen and ink.

Beginners choose pen, ink, paper and inkstone-

Brush: It is recommended to use two brushes, and the brush tip should not exceed 4 cm.

Ink: Yidege ink

Paper: edge paper

Ink stone: If you don't have an ink stone, you can bring a small bowl or saucer that you don't use at home to hold ink.

Felt: calligraphy and painting felt

As for the introduction of calligraphy, it is suggested to start with official script.

Lishu, also called Han Li, is a solemn font commonly used in Chinese characters. Its writing effect is slightly wide and flat, with a long horizontal drawing and a short vertical drawing, which is rectangular and pays attention to "silkworm head and goose tail" and "twists and turns".

Lishu originated in the Qin Dynasty and was compiled by Cheng Miao. It reached its peak in the Eastern Han Dynasty, which had a great influence on later calligraphy. Calligraphy is called "Tang Kai of Han Li".

Li Shu's strokes are basically horizontal and vertical, with little change. As long as you master the rules of some typical strokes, you can get the essentials of writing, and then you can improve your vision and sensibility by reading and pasting, and you can gradually improve your pen skills. Compared with Wei Bei, Tang Kai, Shu Hang and cursive script, Lishu is a relatively easy and fast font to use, and it is also one of the necessary entry fonts for beginners of brush calligraphy.

When you learn calligraphy, you learn to persist. Success is not achieved overnight, but accumulated over time.
