Where is Yinshan in Hunan?

Yinshan is located in Huangjingping District, Paitou Township, Xiangtan County, Hunan Province. Yinshan Mountain is the remnant of Nanyue Hengshan Mountain, also known as Longwang Mountain. It has always been one of the four famous mountains in Xiangtan, with an altitude of 437 meters. Zhou Dunyi, the founder of Neo-Confucianism in the Northern Song Dynasty and a writer, once lived in seclusion in Yinshan to give lectures, which is why Yinshan got its name. Yinshan not only has unique natural landscapes, unique Jiangnan mountain scenery, and pleasant warm climate, but also has profound cultural heritage and numerous historical sites. It is a composite tourism resource that integrates Xiangtan's unique cultural and natural landscapes.

There are different rumors about the origin of the name Yinshan: One theory is that it was named after the Song Dynasty writer Zhou Dunyi once lived in seclusion here to give lectures. It is said that in the Six Dynasties, the monk Mi Shibo followed Dongshan Liangjie through this mountain and saw floating vegetables coming out of the stream. He then pulled grass and walked six or seven miles along the stream. He saw an old monk living in a thatched hut.

Dongshan Liangjia worshiped the old monk as his teacher, burned his nunnery in the middle of the night, and went deep into the mountains together to live in Baiyun Jingshe, so he was known as the Yinshan monk or the Longshan monk. There is a poem on the stone wall that goes: "Three huts go back and forth, and a divine light spreads across all realms. Don't judge me for right and wrong. It has nothing to do with me in my life." This is where the name Hidden Mountain comes from.

When Emperor Zhengde of the Ming Dynasty traveled south to this place, he saw splendid monasteries and temples, carved calligraphy, couplets, plaques, murals and banners, a dazzling array of things to see, monks and nuns passing by, incense-filled, and donors worshiping. It really had the artistic conception of a paradise, and he couldn't help but applaud Absolutely, he impromptuly inscribed the plaque "The Hidden Mountains of the World" on the front door of Guanyin Hall. Since then, the reputation of Hidden Mountain has become more prominent.
