Extended information of Chen Banding's life experience
Chen Banding lost his mother at the age of 6, his father at the age of 9, dropped out of school at an early age and lived a miserable life. In his autobiography, he said that he was fascinated by painting when he was 15 years old. He was "obsessed with painting and calligraphy, regardless of hunger". 1894, his cousin Wu Yin returned to Shaoxing from Shanghai. Because Yan Xinhou's family was short of manpower to develop seven kinds of printed books, he took Chen Banding to work as a waiter in Yan's family, which was a turning point in Chen Banding's life.
At that time, the Yan family hired Wu Changshuo and other Shanghai celebrities, giving them the opportunity to accept Wu Changshuo's guidance. During his ten years in Shanghai, Chen Banding studied under famous artists such as Ren Bonian and Pu Hua, which laid a solid artistic foundation for his future development in Beijing. 1906 (thirty-two years of Guangxu), Yan Zi, the son of Yan Xinhou, invited Chen Banding to paint in his house.
At that time, Yan Zi was the director of the Ningbo Guild Hall, and many of Ren Bonian's paintings in the Guild Hall needed copying, so Chen Banding copied Ren Bonian's paintings in Yan Jia. One day, he was painting, and Jincheng saw him. Jincheng appreciated it and planned to invite Chen Banding to Beijing.
After Chen Banding arrived in Beijing, he first lived in Jincheng's home. Later, out of the kindness of Prince Su, he wanted to serve the imperial statue of Wuliutang. Jincheng recommended Chen Banding to the prince's house, and the prince appreciated him very much.
1922, Prince Su died of illness in Lushun. In return, two solo exhibitions were held in Dalian, and hundreds of thousands of paintings (ancient coins) were sold, all of which were used to pay for the return of Prince Su Lingbi to Beijing. "Guy was the first person in China to hold an art exhibition."
