Why are Chinese paintings so valuable and calligraphy so expensive?

Chinese painting (including calligraphy) is one of the four national quintessences (the other three are Beijing Opera, Chinese Medicine and Wushu), with a long history and profound knowledge. Calligraphy and painting not only embodies its own artistic form, but also combines the self-cultivation and refinement of literature, music and poetry. It is a bright pearl in the long river of ancient oriental China national art, and the artistic achievements of those famous artists in ancient and modern times are measured by value.
