He integrated the advantages of various schools and worked in various styles, especially Xing and Li. The work uses both square and round shapes, and the ink is thick and moist, forming a deep, elegant, powerful and smooth style. In the calligraphy and painting circles of Baoding, I had long known Mr. Yao Chao. Now retired, he is leisurely and elegant. In addition to the necessary daily physical exercise, he studies calligraphy intensively, but he also sometimes participates in social welfare activities. After contacting him, we were fortunate enough to visit Mr. Yao Chao, and he warmly received us.
His calligraphy pays attention to the study of tradition and does not follow the trend of the times. He is diligent in studying the classics of ancient Dharma books, constantly enriching and nourishing himself, advocating the tradition of learning without sticking to tradition, and creating new ideas without being weird. He also often said: Learning books begins with being able to take it, and continues with being able to let it go; if you are not able to take it, you have no way to let it go. He believes that when absorbing traditional nutrition, we should avoid not understanding and blindly following tradition.
“Studying calligraphy must establish its own family, so as to be able to compete with the ancients. There is no one who has been the same since the Wei and Jin Dynasties. The wind will change, and it will also depend on the scale to establish itself.” This is the practice that Mr. Yao Chao will spend his whole life. and the pursuit of ideals of perfection. Mr. Wang is a kind-hearted person who does not show off, is down-to-earth, and does not care about cleverness in his studies.
