Tong Wei was famous for writing poems and essays in his early years, as well as novels and plays. Deep literary accomplishment and his calligraphy creation complement each other, which is another source of his calligraphy achievements. In his early years as an official, he gained the neatness and simplicity of Zhang Qianbei, the simplicity and elegance of the ritual monument, the elegance and agility of Shimen Ode, and the ups and downs of Guangwu General. Tong Wei likes magnificence and romanticism, so he fell in love with the cursive scripts of Huai Su, Yu Youren and Mao Zedong at first sight in his youth. After middle age, he studied the works of Cao Zhang, You Shi, Suo Jing, Huang Xiang, Song Ke, Wang Shitang, Wang Juchang and others in order to combine cursive script with his skills of official script for decades. After repeated tempering, collision, continuous fusion and sublimation, it gradually formed its own Cao Zhang style, which is a combination of official script and official script, beautiful and elegant. The lines are smooth and elastic, the shapes are dull and dangerous, and the waves in Cao Zhang are properly used. Tong Wei's research and application of Cao Zhang is not only ahead of others, but also has his own unique understanding. It is his overall grasp and in-depth exploration of aesthetic comprehension that makes his Cao Zhang works present a relaxed, natural and elegant style to people once they are published.
Tong Wei's calligraphy works have participated in many major exhibitions at home and abroad, and held book fairs in the north and south of the Yangtze River. His works have been collected by China History Museum, Revolutionary Military Museum, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Zhongnanhai, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, the United States and other places, and have been included in more than 100 large-scale paintings and calligraphy works. Published poetry anthology, prose anthology, songs and tears anthology, notes anthology, Tong Wei's calligraphy anthology, recent selections of Tong Wei's calligraphy, and common copybooks (Zhangcao part). He also edited Selected Writings of Contemporary Literature Masters and The Essence of China and Cao Zhang's Famous Posts. China Audio-Visual Publishing House published its video "The Humanity of Cao Zhang Art". In 1996, 1999 and 2000, CCTV and Beijing TV once broadcast feature films such as Love of Mo Han.
Now he is a senior consultant and a distinguished calligrapher of tang style Art Museum.
