Zhoutan Town is an ancient Dongxiang Town in Tongcheng. Since ancient times, it has been regarded as the hometown of martial arts. As early as 400 years ago, during the reign of Emperor Kangxi, it became a common practice for Zhou celebrities to study and become officials. Zhou Zhuangyuan, a famous Confucian Zhou, is a teacher worshipped by Zhang, a famous person in the prosperous times, because of his quick thinking and superior knowledge. In order to thank the teacher for his education, Prime Minister Zhang personally wrote two plaques for Zhou Ancestral Hall: "Famous Geologist" and "Tanxi Mingmen". Dongxiang Wushu, which is world-famous in history, originated from Fahongshan (Dashan Village) in Zhoutan Town, originated from Zhou and Zhang families, and then spread to the society. From the early Qing Dynasty to the Xianfeng period, Dongxiang martial arts masters came forth in large numbers. The famous ones are: Zhang Mubin, the second martial artist of Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty; Zhang Guanao, a skilled boxer; Zhou Nanshou, a general who practiced medicine in southern Guizhou during Guangxu period; Zhang Qixun and Zhou Bingkun, coaches with a sense of justice; Zhang Suyun, the chivalrous woman who avenged her father, etc. In the 28th year of Qing Daoguang (1948), the head coach of Dongxiang Thirty-six (known as the Thirty-six Cults in the World) led hundreds of villagers with superb martial arts to enter Jiuhua Mountain, hiding knives and sticks, and the evil monks were captured alive and killed the people. Since then, the reputation of thirty-six cults has spread far and wide, and Dongxiang martial arts has become famous in the north and south of the Yangtze River, claiming that it can't beat Dongxiang. After the founding of New China, especially since the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, practicing boxing and martial arts has become a compulsory course for villagers to keep fit. At the same time, the wind of "respecting literature and martial arts" is getting stronger and stronger.
