Who named the Ten Scenes of West Lake? That's great.

The Origin of Ten Scenes of West Lake

The Ten Scenes of the West Lake have been circulated for more than 700 years since the Southern Song Dynasty. According to Zhu Mu's Yu Fang Sheng Lan in the Southern Song Dynasty, the ten scenic spots of the West Lake are: autumn moon in Pinghu, spring dawn in Su Causeway, residual snow on the bridge, sunset glow of Leifeng, night bell in Nanping, wind lotus in Quyuan, fish watching, willow waves singing, moon printing in Santan, and two peaks inserting clouds. Every two scenic spots are paired in turn, such as "Autumn Moon in Pinghu" versus "Xiao Chun in Su Causeway" and "Three Tanyue" versus "Two Peaks in the Cloud". The first four scenic spots still rhyme. The naming idea is clever.

Later, Wu's Meng Liang Lu also included the names of the Ten Scenes of the West Lake, with slightly different words, such as "Quyuan Wind Lotus" as "Quyuan Wind Lotus", "Leifeng Sunset" as "Leifeng Sunset" and "Three Ponds Reflecting the Moon" as "Three Ponds Reflecting the Moon".

In the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Kangxi made a southern tour and erected a monument for the title of the ten scenic spots in the West Lake, changing "two peaks inserted into the clouds" to "two peaks inserted into the clouds" and "Quyuan Wind Lotus" to "Quyuan Wind Lotus". These two places have been called until now. As for the change of "Lei Feng Zhao Xi" to "Lei Feng Zhao Xi" and "Nanping Night Bell" to "Nanping Xiao Zhong", people still use their old names.

It can be seen that the naming of these landscapes has become a typical aesthetic feeling after being appreciated, verified and recognized by tourists throughout the ages, and it is difficult to change it easily.
