"Xishan Paper" is produced in Longqishan, Jiangle County, Fujian Province. According to China Calligraphy Tool Manual, Jiangle is one of the earliest places in China to produce fringed paper. The paper-making history of Longqishan can be traced back to the Song Dynasty. At that time, bamboo paper in Fujian was not famous, and Cai Xiang banned bamboo paper when he was an official in Fujian in the Northern Song Dynasty, because "the lawsuit was pending and the lawsuit was scattered". By the Southern Song Dynasty, the quality of bamboo paper was superior to other provinces. Bibliographers all know that Mashaben's paper in Jianyang, Fujian Province is bamboo paper produced by Shaowu, Sanming and Yanping. During the Southern Song Dynasty, Jianyang became one of the three printing centers in China.
Guo Baicang, a A Qing litterateur, wrote in The History of Fujian that the best music paper is the Beijing paper of Yangjiashan and the Xishan paper of Longqishan. Xishan paper is flexible and delicate, as white as snow, and it will not rot for a long time. It is said that when the Sikuquanshu was engraved, the Qing court sent personnel to Jiangle County to buy Xishan paper produced by Longqishan, which was specially used for engraving books. In ancient times, there was also a saying that "Xishan paper is expensive".
