Basic methods of holding a pen

-Brush

Since the lines of painting and calligraphy began to pay attention to the use of pens in the center, the pen holding method of painting and calligraphy has always adopted the five-finger pen holding method. The difference between a five-finger pen and a three-finger pen lies in the different inclination angles of the pen and paper. The three-finger pen holding method makes the pen and the paper form a 45-degree oblique angle, so that the side of the nib contacts with the paper, and the naturally drawn line is the side tip. The method of holding the pen with five fingers can make the pen perpendicular to the paper, thus avoiding the side of the pen tip from contacting the paper and avoiding the side tip.

Holding a pen with five fingers requires certain posture, fingering, wrist and elbow movements and strength.

(1) posture

The pen is required to be perpendicular to the picture without oblique angle, and the state of "pen is like a hanging needle" should be achieved.

(2) fingering

Fingers together, thumb and forefinger hold the pen, middle finger pulls the pen, ring finger pushes the pen, and little finger pushes the ring finger. Hold the pen with strong five fingers and empty palms, just like holding an egg and asking for "empty palms".

(3) Wrist and elbow

It is required to take the elbow as the fulcrum, sway the wrist and exercise the forearm.

These requirements are mainly aimed at the lines of the pen used in the center, especially when practicing the lines, and fully understand the rules of the pen used in Chinese painting. Of course, in actual painting, it is impossible to use the same central brushwork, especially the freehand brushwork, the turning brushwork, the middle brushwork and so on. But all the changes in the use of pens are based on the correct method of holding pens and mastering the basic skills of using pens.

The most striking feature of brush painting in Chinese painting is to express the outline, light and shade and texture of objects based on ink lines, and at the same time, to express the painter's thoughts and spirit through ink lines. The ink line of Chinese painting has its own independent aesthetic value. Therefore, how to use a pen in Chinese painting is the first problem that must be solved to draw Chinese painting well. China's painting and calligraphy are the same. Although everyone's preferences are different and there is no formula for law enforcement, beginners must master the basic essentials. When holding a pen, the thumb and forefinger hold the pen holder in the shape of "longan" or "phoenix eye", and the middle finger holds the pen holder along the forefinger. After holding the pen, the pen holder generally does not exceed the first knuckle of the index finger. Fingers are solid, palms are weak, wrists are flat, and five fingers are Qi Li, so it is natural to run and retract. Calligraphy is more rigorous, painting is more flexible, you can hold the pen straight and hold it slightly higher, so you can rotate the nib flexibly, and the wrist, elbow, shoulder and body cooperate with each other to move and rotate effectively.

Mike Pan

According to the structure and shape of the refill, it can be roughly divided into the following categories:

Square head (angular): The refill is usually a parallelogram with oblique cuts. When writing with one side of the quadrangle in contact with the paper, the inclination of the pen is about 60 degrees with the paper. When the pen moves, the pen holder should keep the same inclination and pull it in parallel.

Wide-flat shape: The wide-flat Mike pen is similar to the square-headed pen in characteristics, except that the length-width ratio of the cross section of the refill is increased, and the nib does not tend to be wide-flat, so it is designed to facilitate writing large fonts. The width of the pen tip is about 12mm to about 30 mm, and the essentials of brush strokes are roughly the same as those of the square tip.

Chisel: The shape of the nib is like a chisel used in carving. This pen has a knife-edge shape, so it is more flexible in pen transfer and the pen holding method is closer to the usual writing method.

Round-headed: The nib is round-headed. If this marker is in vertical contact with the paper, its contact surface is almost circular. When writing with it, the moment when you start and close the pen is the state of point-to-point contact, so you can write lines with "semicircles" at both ends. Because the nib of a round-headed pen has no directionality, the pen tube should maintain a certain posture, and lines with the same thickness can be written without turning the direction of the lever when lifting the pen.

At present, the Mike pen is the most commonly used painting material for hand-painted Pop. It is characterized by being both a tool and a material, and belongs to a direct coloring pen. It can be directly used for drawing and writing without adding many auxiliary devices or programs. There are not only pens with different sizes, thicknesses and colors, but also the effect of quick drying after painting. In a word, the Mike pen is convenient, fast, clean and lively, which conforms to the characteristics of hand-painted POP.

Matters needing attention when using:

The ink of the Mike pen is easy to volatilize, so you should cover it immediately when not in use to avoid drying up.

When the pen is used for a long time, the felt will get fuzzy. You can burn the felt with fire for two or three seconds. Remember it must not be too long.

Don't rush to open the plastic paper sealed on the outer layer of the new Mike pen, or the ink will dry up if you don't use it for a long time. At this time, you can soak the pen tip and ink stick with anhydrous alcohol and take them out to dry.

There are many colors of the marker, so you must be careful not to smear the ink wrong. Otherwise, the mixed color will darken the original color, affect the effect of writing and painting, and damage the pen.

-Flat pen

Flat pen is a kind of brush with flat tip, with flat hair and neat tip, suitable for coloring and writing. According to the purpose, it can be roughly divided into four categories: pigment-specific, watercolor-specific, oil-painting-specific and design-specific (commonly known as pattern pen); According to the nature of bristles, they can be divided into animal hair and nylon hair.

Flat pen is soft, it is difficult to control freely when using, and the drawing line is not stable, which is different from ordinary art writing tools with hard refills. Of course, the written words are also interesting. If you can master the characteristics of the flat pen and the essentials of writing fonts, and practice hard, you can write an exciting and good hand in a short time.

How to use:

After the flat pen is bought back, first soak the pen tip in water to soften it. If it is uneven, trim the bristles evenly with a blade, so that you can write beautiful and sharp words.

According to your own usage habits, adjust the pigment to the appropriate writing concentration, try to write, and have a better grasp of the pigment concentration.

Before writing, soak the flat pen, then squeeze out the water, and then write with paint. At the same time, pay attention to writing with the middle waist of the pen tip to avoid pressing the pen root.

Not "writing" but "painting". Don't write by writing, but by drawing words and strokes to get in touch with paper. Keep the balance of power, hold the pen steadily, keep the same speed and be unhurried.

Keep the side of the little finger in contact with the paper and keep moving along the direction of the pen, which has a smooth effect of assisting the wrist to move.

If the handwriting is large, you must move the pen with your whole elbow, not just your wrist, so that the contact between the nib and the paper will not change.

If the head and tail of each stroke are uneven, it must be trimmed or tilted. At the same time, when the whole line of calligraphy and painting is completed, we should also examine the relationship between words and the overall sense of balance.

When beginners learn to use flat-brush characters or numbers, it is best to draw a square on paper with a pencil and also draw a font in the square. Pay attention to the full font as much as possible, and then use a flat pen, which makes it easier to draw neat and stable words. After skillfully using the flat pen, simply draw a bottom line with a pencil.
