There are many copybooks in small letters, among which the reputation of small letters in Jin and Tang Dynasties is the most prominent. It usually includes Xuan Tie by Zhong You in Wei Dynasty, Yue Yi Lun by Wang Xizhi, Cao E Bei, Huang Ting Jing, Wang Xianzhi's Sonnets of Luoshen, and Ling Fei Jing by Tang Zhong Shaojing. There are also ink photocopies of works in lower case such as Yuan Zhao Mengfu, Ming Wang Chong and Zhu Yunming, which are also good examples.
Lower case should not only study the general rules of regular script, but also pay attention to the special rules of lower case from the word "small" and master the characteristics different from capitalization. Generally, small print is only six or seven millimeters, or even three or four millimeters. Writing in such a small interval is not an easy task. It requires clear strokes, symmetrical structure, proper posture, complete strokes, pen rotation and pen collection, and uniform posture from beginning to end. If the brushwork is unfamiliar or slightly different, it will often destroy symmetry and unity, and even make it vulgar. When you pick up a pen, you should not only send it with a pen, but also distinguish between severity and illness, which is in line with the law. You can't be perfect if you don't master the basic skills under your wrist. This requirement alone is as difficult as block letters. What's more, the fairness requirements of lowercase letters are generally stricter than those of uppercase letters.
Small print is usually written in two forms: one requires fairness in both directions, and the other requires only the vertical line to be empty, not the vertical line. However, in any form, it is generally required that the first word and the last word of each line should be interlaced, and there should be no unevenness, so as to achieve the overall beauty of neat and natural fine print. This is the meaning of "ten years flat head, twenty years flat feet".
The structure of small block letters should be "loose and loose, and can gallop at intervals", which is contrary to the structure of "tight but not leaking, difficult to insert pins" in large blocks. But it is easy to give people a sense of structural contraction visually. Therefore, if scholars focus on the rigor required by ordinary regular script, they will be too cautious and confused. Therefore, the lower case emphasizes "relaxation" to prevent its disadvantages. The ancestors once said, "Small characters should be written in big characters, and big characters should be written in small characters." This is the truth.
