Hu Qingen, whose courtesy name is Xianming, is also signed by Yuanzhitang. Born in 1972 in Cangzhou, Hebei Province. He studied at Capital Normal University and China Academy of Arts for his master's and doctoral degrees respectively. He is currently a member of the Chinese Calligraphy Association and a specially appointed calligrapher of the Painting and Calligraphy Academy of the magazine "Chinese Calligraphy and Painting". In 2002, he won the Creation Award of the First Chinese Calligraphy and Art Pavilion Award hosted by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Calligraphy Association;
In 2003, he won the Nomination Award at the 8th National Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Exhibition;
The fifth Second prize in the International "Sackler" Calligraphy Competition;
In 2004, he won the first prize in the first national large-character exhibition;
First prize in the National Calligraphy and Painting Competition to Commemorate the Centenary of the Birth of Deng Xiaoping Award;
In 2005, he won the National Award at the Fourth National Zhengshu Exhibition hosted by the Chinese Calligraphy Association;
In 2006, he won the first prize at the first national calligraphy "Mrs. Xian Award";

In 2008, he entered Capital Normal University to study for a master's degree in calligraphy;
In 2011, he entered the China Academy of Art to study for a doctorate in fine arts. His tutor was Mr. Zhang Rongqing, and his research direction was calligraphy practice and theory.
